Hello All
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 29 January 2021 TomTom, the location technology specialist is launching the new GO Discover.

Thanks to new generation processing power and increased memory space (32GB) the new GO Discover has smooth and immediate responsiveness. We also increased the RAM space up to 2GB.
The GO Discover will come with World coverage map and most of all with the NDS map format which provides weekly map updates.
Next to traffic service and speed camera alerts, the new GO Discover offers more live premium services:

EV charging POIs
INTRODUCING THE 7” SCREEN FOR THE FIRST TIME
The device will be available in 3 different screen sizes-
5" serial number starting ZU
6" serial number starting ZV HD Display Screen
7" serial number starting ZW HD Display Screen
Maps and TomTom Traffic will be available for the life of the TomTom device.
The other services are available for 1 year as a trial. After that our customers can purchase a subscription from TomTom webshop.
Services require a smartphone connection.

Important to know:
TomTom GO Discover is a BYOC device. This means that it needs to connect to a phone in order to get the service (the device has NO Sim).
TomTom Go Discover does NOT support Hands-Free calling
Edit(15th June 2021)-

Nice product, but what I don't like is that it doesn't have a SIM and you have to connect to the phone for services, and after a year you have to subscribe ... I think many will use Google Maps which now also has Speed Camera alerts!5
-
Come on Tomtom!! No SIM card and a new subscription for speed camera alerts?
This model is doomed to failure.

no sim card and pay a subscription after 1 year not good. May as well use google maps or Waze.1
-
No SIM??? Must pay??? So, why use this instead gmaps.. waze or any other solution? I really does not understand
I bought Tomtom 6200 because of the sim and life time traffic... but I have no clue who will spent money for this new GPS2 -
Can this new device show custom images for poi on the map?0
-
Oh, man.... Without SIM, really??? I would buy a with-SIM-version right now but so I have to wait, maybe TomTom changes its mind... Make at least a version with LTE-modem and SIM slot so I could get a data-SIM from my provider!!! It's absolute uncomfortable to connect my phone every time to the navigation, to take care about the phone's battery etc. Please don't be fool, it's 2021!2

Does anyone have an estimate on when the Discover will be released in North America (Canada) ?0
-
Tomtom are just recycling the same tired business model, no innovation just the same old thing of removing some features, adding minor upgrades and some features that can be got for free on any phone app.0

Hi Vikram,
I wanted to know if connecting the Discover to the bluetooth of my iPhone then the speakerphone on my car no longer works, because then all this makes no sense! On the GO 5200 the speakerphone feels very bad0 -
@Lepre
iPhone8 and later supports dual Bluetooth profiles. A connection should work if both pairings use different profiles.1 -

Would I be correct in thinking that if you use this device abroad you will be using data? Any idea how much data this device will use?
TIA0 -
Hi @Alimac
The Discovery range do not have an inbuilt Sim so all data used for Traffic etc is via your phone. Tomtom indicate that on the PND units Traffic data uses circa 7mb per month if you use your unit for 1 hour per day so the Data demand would seem to be very low.

Yesterday the route of 1,100 km used up 2.62 MB1

Can anyone advise if the Bluetooth connection between the phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) and GO Discover drains a phone battery a lot or hardly anything?
Also how much data would be used on for example1 hour trip?
Lastly, what is the resolution of the screen if it's HD?0 -

We haven't come across any complaints about battery draining while using the phone data via Bluetooth. However, this would depend on the usage/travel duration.leebroath1976 wrote: »Also how much data would be used on for example1 hour trip?
For information about the data usage please go through our support article here-

The screen resolution is different for every screen size. See specification section.

Fantastic, great help1

I will buy it in a shot, once it has the same connectivity as my GO 6250. Also lifetime map and camera updates. My current model in painfully slow compared to Google Maps. I use both simultaneously as Google takes me to the business premisses and TomTom avoids low bridges etc.
I would like TomTom to give us an option to aviod single track roads too. It's bloody frustrating being taken off of an A road onto a lane with passing places because it saves 2 minutes!! It doesn't save time as you travel so damn slowly. Provide the facility like Google "we've found a faster route that saves 2 minutes" No thanks I'll stay on the main road!!0
