Next to traffic service and speed camera alerts, the new GO Discover offers more live premium services:

INTRODUCING THE 7” SCREEN FOR THE FIRST TIME

The device will be available in 3 different screen sizes-
5" serial number starting ZU
6" serial number starting ZV HD Display Screen

Maps and TomTom Traffic will be available for the life of the TomTom device.
The other services are available for 1 year as a trial. After that our customers can purchase a subscription from TomTom webshop.
Services require a smartphone connection.

probable i belong at 0.0001% of the gnss enthusiast users. That's why, when i read "TomTom, the location technology specialist ....", i tried to find informations about the gnss receiver quality. But once again all of this years, those specs must be so much embarrassing to make tomtom to hide them.

    there is no info about
    - which constellations systems support
    - which satellite bands support
    - how many measurements per second support (Hz)
    - what accuracy has (meters)

    Dear Vikram,

Will the nav software that is on the new GO Discover also be available for the GO Premium models?
And is the magnetic holder the same as that of the Premium models?
So the new GO Discover fits on the holder of the Premium model?

    Regards, Leo

Not 'when', but 'will' this model come with a SIM card?
Is TomTom still going to make models with a SIM card or is
the global trend to switch off 2G signals the end for this
    kind of product?

I have just pre-ordered this 'GO Discover' assuming it is the
new top of the line model, I will not be happy if one with a
SIM card is announced in a couple of months!

The Hardware on the GO Discover is quite different and so the software for this model is designed differently. Especially because the device supports NDS maps(weekly updates). The software won't be compatible to work on the GO PREMIUM.

The mount sizes for the 5" and 6" should be the same but the GO Discover requires a different charging cable(Higher power requirement) The official answer would be- not to use the same mounts.

The mount for the 7" model is a completely new design considering the weight of the device.

The roadmap for the devices with a built-in SIM is still not decided. We are holding back any plans looking at the recent closures of the 2G network in some countries.

Hi Vikram, can you tell your boss that although I bought a GO Premium X two months ago that if Tomtom releases a GO Discover with integrated SIM card, I buy it now. :)

Yes, I would purchase right now if it had a SIM card. No chance at all without.

Yes, you can place orders there but it does not say it was already released. It says "BUY NOW" but "Ships within 2-3 working days after release date".

    Just an update!
We started shipping the GO Discover 5" and 6". If you have placed an order already then we expect the product to be delivered this week.

Slight delay with the GO Discover 7" due to some stock issues, but we should start the first shipments early next week.

    Thank you, Vikram =)

You can do all the above with the existing NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices....

    2004: My First TomTom Go
2006: TomTom Go 700 with Live traffic update :o
09-2007: Invited to test HD Traffic with a new TomTom B)
01-2008: TomTom One XL HD --> Traffic is sooooo much better =)
06-2008: TomTom Go 930 --> need more maps! and a new gadget =) One XL for my wife
    05- 2009: TomTom Go 940 LIVE --> oooh... it's new and better
08-2009: TomTom XL Live IQ Routes --> my wife needs an update too.

    ....

09-2010: TomTom Go LIVE 1000 --> :-( not an improvement over the 940
    12-2012: TomTom App --> I love it!
02-2015: TomTom Go 5000 --> finally and update worthy!
09-2016: TomTom Go 5001 --> :-( not an update really
06-2017: TomTom Go 5200 --> :-( not an update really
02-2019: TomTom dumps their stock of 5200's .... ehm gives loyal customers a discount but it is still not really an update compared to the 5000 (same slow cpu/gpu as in 2015)
05-2019: TomTom repainted the 6200's and rebranded it Premium X!, but it still the same hardware; so no update
2020: please take our old hardware with 30%-35% discount... pleaaaaaase?

    But then!

01-2021: aaaah! a new device... TomTom GO Discover! Big srceen, new maps, premium LIVE services.... is it true... would there finally be an upgrade to the six year old device??? (it is commendable, that in 2015 TomTom did build a device that actually still works!) Shall I pre-order..... no let's wait for the actial specs

    02-2021:
the device is 4x quicker.... and maps 3x more often... and there is premium LIVE for ev.... wait what? 1 year trial?? what happened to the 'For Life'

Yeah! the specs are here. NO SIM??? I need to connect my phone via bluetooth? Can it do that while connected to the car and headset? What happened to life traffic in Europe.... how is this an update?

And would it connect to multiple phones? And if it does, and my wife and I are both in the car; which device would it link to. (as my phone is a work phone, and my wife has a private device)
Will it interfere with the connection to the car for calling and music?

The person responsible for product design should be fired!

They should fix all the problems with the existing devices before launching yet another new product. I certainly won't be buying one.

@ Otto: Discover is an evolution of GO Essential not of GO Premium! We all wait for the successor of the GO Premium with a built in SIM card!

    (2)... 16 GB on-board Memory... The GO 5000 only has 8 GB....
(3)... Wi-Fi & USB connectivity... The GO 5000 only has USB....

Is the TomTom Traffic on the Go Discover still limited to a certain region only, or is it now worldwide also?

    Hi
    @DLBB
    Welcome to the site....
As the GO Discovery is a Smartphone BYOC (Bring your own connection) device...
Surely the Live Traffic would depend on the compatibility of your Smartphone to the various phone systems/standards/providers in use at any one time/location around the world ???

Thanks YamFazMan for your response. Why I asked is because previous TomTom models with world-wide maps have Live Traffic working only in the region that you bought your TomTom device. e.g. if you bought it in US, Live Traffic only works in US/Canada, but not in Europe/Asia.

I do understand my phone also needs to work in the region that I intend to use the TomTom device.

Hi, I saw that the Discover comes with the possibility to have the 1-year live off-street parking and 1-year live fuel prices info. Could you tell me how much will it cost for the renewal of both?
I am planning to use several device with this and need to know it in advance .
    Thanks !

    Hi,

I was looking for a successor to the GO 6000.

However, there seems to be no in sight, since:
    • No mobile data
    • No life time services

    that's really sad.

Or do I miss something out here? I definately don't want to fiddle arround with some wacky bluetooth connection. I could then use my phone in the first place.

What I also would love(!) to see: An integrated dashcam (4k)!

    With wifi upload of events...

That would be so cool (for me IMHO).

    Regards Tom
