TomTom launches the GO Discover

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 29 January 2021 TomTom, the location technology specialist is launching the new GO Discover.

Thanks to new generation processing power and increased memory space (32GB) the new GO Discover has smooth and immediate responsiveness. We also increased the RAM space up to 2GB.
The GO Discover will come with World coverage map and most of all with the NDS map format which provides weekly map updates.
Next to traffic service and speed camera alerts, the new GO Discover offers more live premium services:
Fuel prices information
Off-street parking availability
EV charging POIs
INTRODUCING THE 7” SCREEN FOR THE FIRST TIME
The device will be available in 3 different screen sizes-
5" serial number starting ZU
6" serial number starting ZV HD Display Screen
7" serial number starting ZW HD Display Screen
Maps and TomTom Traffic will be available for the life of the TomTom device.
The other services are available for 1 year as a trial. After that our customers can purchase a subscription from TomTom webshop.
Services require a smartphone connection.

Important to know:
TomTom GO Discover is a BYOC device. This means that it needs to connect to a phone in order to get the service (the device has NO Sim).
TomTom Go Discover does NOT support Hands-Free calling
All the best and Drive safe!

there is no info about
- which constellations systems support
- which satellite bands support
- how many measurements per second support (Hz)
- what accuracy has (meters)
Will the nav software that is on the new GO Discover also be available for the GO Premium models?
And is the magnetic holder the same as that of the Premium models?
So the new GO Discover fits on the holder of the Premium model?
Regards, Leo
Is TomTom still going to make models with a SIM card or is
the global trend to switch off 2G signals the end for this
kind of product?
I have just pre-ordered this 'GO Discover' assuming it is the
new top of the line model, I will not be happy if one with a
SIM card is announced in a couple of months!
The Hardware on the GO Discover is quite different and so the software for this model is designed differently. Especially because the device supports NDS maps(weekly updates). The software won't be compatible to work on the GO PREMIUM.
The mount sizes for the 5" and 6" should be the same but the GO Discover requires a different charging cable(Higher power requirement) The official answer would be- not to use the same mounts.
The mount for the 7" model is a completely new design considering the weight of the device.
The roadmap for the devices with a built-in SIM is still not decided. We are holding back any plans looking at the recent closures of the 2G network in some countries.
Thanks, Vikram

Yes, I would purchase right now if it had a SIM card. No chance at all without.
We started shipping the GO Discover 5" and 6". If you have placed an order already then we expect the product to be delivered this week.
Slight delay with the GO Discover 7" due to some stock issues, but we should start the first shipments early next week.
Thank you, Vikram
1) connect new tomtom discovery to internet via hotspot in my car (not mobile phone, but router)
OR
2) make internet connection with mobile phone somehow automatic - when You get in car they somehow autoconnect

06-2017: TomTom Go 5200 --> :-( not an update really
02-2019: TomTom dumps their stock of 5200's .... ehm gives loyal customers a discount but it is still not really an update compared to the 5000 (same slow cpu/gpu as in 2015)
05-2019: TomTom repainted the 6200's and rebranded it Premium X!, but it still the same hardware; so no update

But then!
01-2021: aaaah! a new device... TomTom GO Discover! Big srceen, new maps, premium LIVE services.... is it true... would there finally be an upgrade to the six year old device??? (it is commendable, that in 2015 TomTom did build a device that actually still works!) Shall I pre-order..... no let's wait for the actial specs
02-2021:
the device is 4x quicker.... and maps 3x more often... and there is premium LIVE for ev.... wait what? 1 year trial?? what happened to the 'For Life'
Yeah! the specs are here. NO SIM??? I need to connect my phone via bluetooth? Can it do that while connected to the car and headset? What happened to life traffic in Europe.... how is this an update?
And would it connect to multiple phones? And if it does, and my wife and I are both in the car; which device would it link to. (as my phone is a work phone, and my wife has a private device)
Will it interfere with the connection to the car for calling and music?
The person responsible for product design should be fired!

@DLBB
Welcome to the site....
As the GO Discovery is a Smartphone BYOC (Bring your own connection) device...
Surely the Live Traffic would depend on the compatibility of your Smartphone to the various phone systems/standards/providers in use at any one time/location around the world ???

I do understand my phone also needs to work in the region that I intend to use the TomTom device.
