I know its easy to modify a route, but if you do so you loose the original route
Miss the ability to copy an existing route and then modify this under new name if you want to keep existing route

Using the MyDrive Web Route planner....
Planned a route... Start Worcester --> Birkenhead --> Manchester
    With the route planned
    Click on the Save Button
    A new window opens
Go to the top of the planning window
Click on the route Title box & edit the Name
Named the route... XXXX Worcester to Manchester
Go to the bottom of the planning window
    Click on the save Button
The route was saved as... XXXX Worcester to Manchester
Click on the Edit button... To reactivate the route....

    Modified route....
    Added Blackburn to the route....
Start Worcester --> Birkenhead --> Blackburn --> Manchester
    Click on the Save Button
    A new window opens
Go to the top of the planning window
Click on the route Title box & edit the Name
Named the route.... YYYY Worcester to Manchester
Go to the bottom of the planning window
    Click on the save Button
The route was saved as... YYYY Worcester to Manchester....

I actually would like to do it in route planner.

I use MyRouteApp to quickly modify existing tracks and routes.
You can display multiple routes and tracks and edit your new version.
This also works with the free version.

With the payed Gold version you can also compare routes between different maps, use te TomTom map, use street view and many more.
