Hi, I read on this post that there will be a Family sharing option on iOS. Any idea if this will also be coming to Android? It would be a big deal if we're able to share the subscription between Android family members.
Welcome to the Community! As far as I know, if you have an active subscription on your TomTom or Google Account and are logged in, you can use the GO Navigation App on multiple phones. The GO Navigation subscription is linked to your account and not your device.
Yes, I know, but in the post I linked, you yourself are talking about sharing the subscription between different accounts. You said TomTom is working on this for iOS. Is this something us Android-folks will also be getting, or will we be paying the same amount but with less functions?
Sharing a subscription between different accounts is a whole other thing than sharing it between different devices.
Family sharing is used for sharing the subscription across different iOS devices of members of your Family Sharing group. With Android, however, this is not possible. Google does have the Family library functionality but it doesn't support the sharing of the subscription within Family members.
So if you want to share a single subscription on different Android devices, you need to login with the same email address from which the subscription is purchased (in google playstore) on every phone.
This used to work on my own phone and my wife's phone. We were able to share the same subsciption using my email address on both phones. For some reason this does not work anymore. There is no problem on my phone, but when I (re)install the Go app on my wife's phone and I login with my email address and password it says 'there is no active subsciption'.
How can I solve this problem?
I suggest you try installing your Google account onto your wife's phone as an additional account. You can switch off GMail and other notifications and all of the synchronizations so she will not be bothered by your emails, contacts and appointments etc.
I bought TomTom go for my android S8 and hope to let my wife use it as well on her android S9. I've installed my Google account on her device. Reinstalled the app and used my Google email address to login. No subscription shows up.
I also have family sharing enabled with her Android S9 but Lampard mentioned this will not work.
How would sharing work? I see the same as Mightyflea noticed I guess. Can somebody confirm tgold's approach?
As long as you have an active subscription on your Google Account logged in, you can use GO Navigation on multiple phones. The GO Navigation subscription is linked to your Google account (that was used for purchase) account and not your device.
I think tgold's advice above should work, let us know how it goes!
