I don't have a smartphone - does that mean I can't use a TomTom satnav device?

I have just purchased a TomTom Via 52. I have never used a satnav device before. I am trying to set it up, and it says "To get TomTom services you must use your phone's internet connection". My phone doesn't have a mobile internet connection - that's why I decided to buy a satnav device. Does this mean I won't be able to use the TomTom?
