Tomtom START 62 weird Charging behavior

I got a new Tomtom Start 62. I would like to charge the device, but iit seems that it only charges when the screen is on. Is it a normal behavior? If I turn the Device off/Sceen off, I can see on my standard USB Wall Charger that nothing is charging. I am using the genuine tomtom USB-cable.
Thanks for any information.

    Welcome to the site
The supplied Tomtom Power adapter is 5v 1.2 Amp....
Many 3rd party power adapters do NOT match up to their manufactures claimed output....

Tap the 4Dot (.... Menu) button... On the Menu Screen top right is a battery status Icon
Charging... Displays when Connected to a Power supply
Full Charge... Displays when Connected or Not Connected Power supply
Half Charge... Displays when NOT Connected Power supply
Low Battery... Displays when NOT Connected Power supply
One of the worst things you can do to a Lithium battery is to run it flat so at a certain percentage of discharge (Unspecified)... The device will go into 'Power Saving Mode' the screen will dull, and the device will eventually turn itself off (Not Sleep)

There is a Battery Status display available on the devices Status Screen
Press and hold the on/off button until you hear a drum-roll sound continue to hold the on/off button until the Black & White Status screen is shown.....
If you are worrying about the device charging, you might consider one of these gadgets

Simply plug the device into the USB socket and plug your lead into the USB Doctor, the device will display the Voltage and Power being used by your various USB devices, when the device is fully charged the USB Doctor displays... 0.00A
I have one of each type they're only peanuts to buy, search Amazon/eBay for USB Doctor

Thank you for your detailed Answer.
Actually the wall charger is a quite good one and delivers its claimed 2A charging current. The device gets charges normally with this charger when the screen is on. So it can't be the charger.
Anyway I will try furter with the original car charger connected to a 220V/12V Converter to see if the charging issue continues to be present when screen is off.
