I was recently given a VIA 62 by the family of my recently deceased neighbour. I tried to update the device but as it is still registered to the previous owner on my drive ( don't know his password) it will no connect to my laptop. TomTom will not help remove the device so I can add it as mine, unless they receive an email from the previous owner!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas/

To remove the previous owners details ,and is what you would do I if you were selling it to someone, do a Factory Reset. This will remove the account details and return the unit to the Out of the Box situation except the Operating System and Map versions on it will not be changed.
Tap Menu
Tap Settings
Tap System
Tap Reset Device.
Now set it up with language, your TT account details etc. You can leave Bluetooth and Wifi connection to later if you want.
