Hi all
@guzziowner
Mapshare updates are not always well digested by our devices. Always do them alone without other items. Likewise for other updates always only one at a time.
After each update I do a Soft Reset of the device. It's like a "Resart" on a PC. The aim, force the complet restart of the navcore of your device and properly integrate the latest changes. You will not lose anything.
With your device Not connected to the PC and switch on with the battery full:
Soft Reset ==> press and hold the On/Off button until you hear the drum sounds. This can take 30 seconds or more. The device restarts. If you see a black screen with white text, hold down the button until you hear the drum sounds.

Hi
@guzziowner
Welcome to the site...
Is the device still dead or did it work after charging the device for several hours after you arrived Home ???

it booted after a couple of attempts, and after being on a wall socket charger.. which dosen't leave me feeling confident about a touring / camping holiday (if they ever open again)0

Hi
@guzziowner
The NAV4 & NAV5 car devices have (in theory) one hour battery use... and two hour plus recharge time....
The Rider 4xx & 5xx has (in theory) a six hour battery use... and obviously a much longer recharge time....
Tap the 4Dot (.... Menu) button... On the Menu Screen top right is a battery status Icon
Charging... Displays when Connected to a Power supply
Full Charge... Displays when Connected or Not Connected Power supply
Half Charge... Displays when NOT Connected Power supply
Low Battery... Displays when NOT Connected Power supply
One of the worst things you can do to a Lithium battery is to run it flat so at a certain percentage of discharge (Unspecified)... The device will go into 'Power Saving Mode' the screen will dull, and the device will eventually turn itself off (Not Sleep)
There is a Battery Status display available on the devices Status Screen
Press and hold the on/off button until you hear a drum-roll sound Continue to hold the on/off button until the Black & White Status screen is shown.....
If you are worrying about the device charging, you might consider one of these gadgets
Or
Simply plug the device into the USB socket and plug your lead into the USB Doctor, the device will display the Voltage and Power being used by your various USB devices when the device is fully charged the USB Doctor displays 0.00 Amps
I have one of each type they're only peanuts to buy, search Amazon/eBay for USB Doctor

The power must have been good on the mount else it would have gone to sleep, on power off, unit was on charge less than 1/2 hour so if flat it charged really fast, did have a minor comunity update before goingout but can't see that killing the boot sequence0
