Another bug, new?

Bart0Bart0 Posts: 45 [Renowned Wayfarer]
A lot is said about all the bugs and troubles this software gives us. Today a new one. Who has a solution to edit a created route?

I use windows 10 and the webversion of TomTom Mydrive. I've used all the common browsers (Edge. Chrome, Firefox) but none of them seems to deal with this crappy TT software:

I created a route with the combination of software above. Then I checked the route on my TT 550 device. I lost 60km and one hour of driving. Also, the route I made, was changed. Weird. I created the route many times. Every time same: The route was "automaticly" changed.

When I try to use the edit button, nothing happens. When I use the button next to it, "delete" , I delete the route. So the edit -button is recognized by the browsers, but the button does not seem to work.

Anyone, any idea?

Thanks alot.

And when you think : it cannot get any weirder, it can. Suddenly the program starts to react on the edit button. But than it creates a route, within the route. Yes. So I started out with a route TT gave me. Without saving it, I changed it. Then I saved it. Then I pushed the edit button and the program reacts. It gives me the original TT route, within the route I created. Why? Why do I still use this TomTom software, knowing that it failes me each and every time.

Time to go to bed and think about all the other options besides TT software.

    May be usefull....
I prefer to use .ITN Routes....
A Route planned directly on the device is a .ITN Route
An .ITN Route uses Stops and the device plans the route between the stops... An .ITN Route will will respond to Live Traffic and any route deviations BUT an .ITN route will doggedly follow the stops in the order they were created, if you miss a stop, the device will continuously attempt to guide you to the missed stop... You have to cancel the problem stop on the device to avoid it

If you want to force a different route you simply add more stops
Note...When you add the extra Stops Max Zoom right into the road
Don't put the stop on the wrong side of a dual track road (Journey loop back errors)
Don't put the stop up a side-road... It may guide you though a built-up area via side streets back to your route, instead of a u-turn
Don't put the stop on on a traffic Island always place a guidance stop further up road on the route after the required traffic island exit....

Using the MyDrive Web Route planner....

Using a .ITN Route planned on the MDW Route planner...
The latest version of MyDrive Web Route planner....
For .ITN Routes with NO Stops... The Menu Shows 'Send Destination'
For .ITN Routes with Stops........... The Menu Changes to 'Send Stops'
The MyDrive Web Route planner only sends the route to the device as a Destination... Or if you add Stops it send it as a Route (But it's is not automatically saved in MyRoutes)
If you are using .ITN route and 'Send Stops'
    see my workaround below

Complex Twenty Stop .ITN Route Rider 400

    Be Aware .ITN Routes....
If your starting point IS NOT your present location there's a BUG
When using the 'Send Stops' option, during an "A" to "B" route transfer and when 'A' IS NOT your present location...
    The device drops Location "A"
This bug also applies also to Multi-Stop/Waypoint routes... 'A' to 'B' to 'C' to' D' to 'E' etc...

For a more detailed info about the 'Dropped 1st Stop Bug'
    Click on the Link...

This is the workaround method I use....

The Tomtom MyDrive Web Route Planner....
    Get it Here...

(1).... Plan my Route with the MyDrive Web Route planner (With or Without Stops as required)

(2)... Zoom in... Place a Sacrificial stop close to the Start Icon

(4)... Choose the 'Send Stops' option... The route will sync to your device

(5)... The device will calculate your route from your 'Present location'
(5.1)... The device will calculate your route using Stops in the order that you placed the Stops in the route
(5.2)... If the planned Start of the Route is your 'Present location'... Then skip Bullet-point... (6)

(6)...When the route has calculated, Pinch zoom to the correct start of your Route (The Sacrificial Stop Icon) 'Long Tap' (Tap and hold for +1 second) on the Sacrificial Stop Icon --> A quick menu opens --> Tap the 3Dot icon --> Choose 'Use as a Starting Point'
The device will calculate your route from your new location

    (7)... Saving the Route
'Quick Tap' anywhere on the Route --> A quick menu opens --> Tap the 3Dot icon --> Manage route --> Add to my Routes.... Edit the route name as required or simply Tap Add

Note... (1) A 'Quick Tap' and 'Long Tap' of the screen gives different menu options
Note... (2) The MyDrive Web Route planner will sync a route with a Max of 20 stops

    Stay Safe... ATB YFM

And when you think : it cannot get any weirder, it can.

Now, after a new small, daily update, my TomTom 550 reboots all the time and cannot be reset at all, again, see

What is the point of starting 3 different Threads all on the same subject ???

  • Bart0Bart0 Posts: 45 [Renowned Wayfarer]
I did not mean to do that, and I think its 2.
First (the one you are reading right now, is a problem TomTom gives me when I want to edit a route I just created. Thats just weird because the softwar does not edit my route , but creates a new route within my route.

The other thread is created today. Another problem. TomTom devices loops after a daily update. It cannot be set back to factorysettings. In that other threat your collegue advised me to contact TomTom Amsterdam for a pick up. In that thread I refer to to same problem some-else has. Possible there is a bug in the software TomTom spreads in the daily updates. If that is so, every user needs to send back his/ her TomTom device. To prevend that situation, TomTom needs to evaluate the updatesoftware they are spreading daily.

If there is a third thread, it's my bad

@YamFazMan, thanks for yet another brilliant work around description. However, it keeps coming back to the PANTs software coming out of TomTom and their apparent failure to keep an eye on their own forums looking for feedback then quietly fixing their nonsense.

If I was one of the directors of TomTom I'd be embarassed beyond measure for failing to fix the many issues. Agreed, your TomTom will always get you there but the costs on many levels can be enormous and exhausting.
