Hello, I have a problem with my navigation device - Tomtom GO 5100. When I connect the navigation device to PC with original Tomtom usb cable - and I use USB 3.0 ports on my PC to do that, Mydrive Connect application can't connect to navigation device. It says "no connection!" under the name of model of my navigation device. Please help

I use the USB3 ports of my PCs without worries with my TomTom devices and MyDrive Connect (MDC). What doesn't work is the use of a USB hub, a cable that cannot exchange data or the car holder.

Out of interest, that motherboard also has USB 2 ports. Does it work when connected to a USB 2 port on that PC?
My navigation device Tom Tom GO 5100 works fine with USB 2.0 ports on my desktop PC's motherboard Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 R2.
But I can't figure out why it doesn't work with USB 3.0 ports. Where is the problem - my motherboard or navigation device? It's so strange

Your concern is not simple. If your device with the same USB cable is detected by the USB3 ports of another computer, the problem is not with the TomTom device but with the computer, its configuration, the motherboard drivers.
In my personal opinion and I am a user like you, no more, the problem is with your motherboard. So now we are outside of the TomTom advice, to be considered on your own responsibility and at your own risk.
Our devices are recognized as (removable) network adapters not USB storage devices. And the connection of TomTom devices is USB2 (microUSB2 socket and USB2 cable)
Some questions come to mind.
- The USB3 port you want to use (normally backward compatible USB2) work for other USB3 or USB2 devices?
- It's in the Front Panel or back of the motherboard? (problem with hardware connection or HUB driver)
- Your Windows 10 is maybe the result of an update from an older W7 or W8 OS. Normally W10 via Windows Update updates the drivers but sometimes you have to do a manual check and installation.
Some thoughts:
Check in the BIOS if features specific to the USB3 sockets have not been disabled (in Integrated Peripherals if you have this type of category in your BIOS). It's a simple problem that happens sometimes.
Check if the USB3 driver is up to date.
In Windows Update, Optional Updates or other products, Drivers. Maybe you have something for USB3.

I did some research on your Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 R2 motherboard, there are several versions, revisions.
- Rev.1.0 for W7 and WXP which has a driver for USB3: VIA USB 3.0 Driver [V4.90A] 11.3MB 2017/11/08
Here https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-78LMT-USB3-R2-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-usb31
- There are also other more recent versions rev.4.1 (WXP/7/8), rev.5.0 and rev.6.0 (WXP/7/8/ and W10).
The latest rev.6.0 for Windows 10 has a driver for USB3, the same as rev.1.0: VIA USB 3.0 Driver [V4.90A] 11.31MB 2015/03/18

It's up to you to decide what you want to do or not. Updating a driver can be positive or cause more problems. If you have any doubts, contact Gigabyte customer support, your motherboard manufacturer.
