Shortest route between Helsinki and Saint Petersburg is not...
This may have been asked before and/or i may be asking on the wrong forum. Whether i use TomTom myDrive, via Michelin or Google Maps, if i set this route they will all cross the border at Imatra/Svetogorsk or Nuijamaa. However, Vaalimaa/Torfyanovka is MUCH closer.
If i try to move the route around to cross the border there, all apps will avoid that road and force the route up north to one of the other two crossing points, even though this appears to be a valid border crossing (mentioned on the Russian e-visa site for Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region).
Even if i plan Helsiki - Vaalimaa - Torfyanovka - Saint Petersburg all apps will still take the long way, even though Vaalimaa and Torfyanovka are a kilometer apart at best.
What am i missing here? Politics?
FYI i'm only considering land routes, no ferries.
