ov2 files for new TomToms? — TomTom Community

ov2 files for new TomToms?

Had my old TT GO 500 for years now. Still works very well, (with my life membership PGPSW ov2 file speed cams).

But of course haven't been able to update the map on it for several years.

So, thinking about a new TomTom, either Premium; Essential or Basic.

But now I get the impression on the PGPSW forums here, that new TomToms won't accept PGPSW ov2 file speed cams (or other ov2 POI).

Is this correct? If so, is there any way possible to get one of the new TomToms to accept said ov2 files please. Or is there any advanced hint that TomTom may add this option back in the (near?) future?

(Hear-say suggests that TomTom's own speed cams are mostly out of date).

    HI
    That is not correct.
You can import *.ov2 files to the Premium or Basic or Essential via the MyDrive Webside.
But the files must not be larger than 2MB and you can only view them with a given icon.
Then it could look like this

    Hi
    @rbbane

I also used a 3rd party Speed Camera POI Database on my NAV3 Devices... To answer you question... As User Lochfrass has stated you can install the 3rd party POI Speed Cam Database but you cannot use the Associated .BMP files or a Warning sound on the approach to the POI

For general improvement using the Tomtom Speed Cam Database over the default settings

    Use a Computer voice...
    Also....
From the main screen... Tap (.... Menu) -> Setting -> Sounds & Warnings...
Set... 'Warning Type' to... Read Allowed... (Important... Needs a Computer Voice set in the Voices menu)
Speed Cameras & Hazards... Set to ON
The next 10 Setting ALL set to Always
The next 4 Settings ALL set to ON
    The device will now say....
    'Fixed Camera'
    'Mobile Hot Spot'
    'Red light Camera'
    'Spoken Traffic delays'
    'Accident Black Spot'

    Edit....
    Speed Cams
If you keep a check on the Traffic-bar... The device gives you a visual Warning of the next Fixed or Mobile Speed Camera many miles before you reach the camera
Even more info if in the 'Setting menus' you setup a Wide Traffic/Route Bar

Thanks for your replies. But why has TomTom felt it necessary to change things for the worse. Camera warnigs, combined with BMP icons works fine on my TT Go500 and all the other older models. Strikes me very similar to Microsoft changing things for no good reason to make Win10 absolutely a pain to work with, while XP and Win7 are like a breath of fresh air.
Until discovering this I was looking forward to buying a new TomTom. Now I will see whether Garmin still allows 3rd party camera files with BMPs and warnings with a view to buying a Garmin.

    Hi
    @rbbane

I prefer the 3rd party Speed camera database that I use on my NAV3 devices, I didn't mind the false positives, but it can get a little irritating along the A449 to Worcester with the sheer amount of false positives
The idea of the Tomtom 'Smart' Speed Camera database is so that people aren't annoyed by false positive Speed Cam warning
I wish Tomtom would offer the best of both worlds
A choice between their 'Smart' system that relies on other users reporting the Cameras
Or an option to Warn about the location of each Camera whether its a live Camera location or a false positive

If you set up your device as suggested in the 3rd post in this thread...
Instead of a none descriptive Dong Dong Dong for all Speed Camera types... The device will tell you its Fixed Camera, an Average Speed Camera zone, a Mobile Hot-Spot , Red light Camera and if its accompanied with a confirmation request 'Is the Camera still there' then its most likely a Mobile Camera that's been reported by another user in the last 2 to 3 hours

The is a 'Speed Camera still there' request is only issued if someone has recently reported a Speed Camera to be present, the warning would remain active for 2 to 3 hours unless someone else reports the Camera van still there or it has moved on
The Tomtom Mobile camera database has always been that way
I have also seen and not been warned about the Mobile Camera Vans, but I always report one if I see it, so I guess the the Tomtom users for the next couple of hours received a warning

i.e... A while ago on Woodbury Lane Worcester I spotted a Police Motorcycle speed check/trap... I received no warning
I tapped the 'Report a Speed Cam' button....
On the return journey I received a warning and a confirmation 'Is the Camera still there request'

Thank you all for your comments and interest.

But I could suggest an analogy here with Microsoft Windows perhaps.

Win XP is a joy to use (in my opinion). I still use it extensively on one of my (powerful) PCs for everyday things.
Despite constant warnings about it's vulnerability to viruses and the like, I have had no problems like that for as long as I can remember.

On the other hand, I have had to install Win10 on my other PC in order to be able to play the latest Total War game.
I find Win10 a pain in the -rse to use, (apart from playing the game).

Doing almost anything in Win10 is like swimming through treacle!
Microsoft have made things worse by changing things for no obvious reason, and left out many useful things that were (are) in XP.

Quite similar to what TomTom appear to have done with their newer sat navs, arguably?

    Hi
    @rbbane

In the end you pays your money and makes your choice... I prefer the Tomtom Live Traffic the Tomtom Routing and the FREE Tomtom Speed Cams (Set-up on my GO Premium as in post 3 )... A package that works for me :)
