I can't update the "Western Europe" map after purchasing the update. After a while of waiting time the message "Tech Problem Heading" always arrives.
This also occurs while trying to load only the new Gpsfix.
I have already done both free and paid updates in the past.
Try a Soft Reset on your device ie with it on hold the ON/OFF button down for about 20 seconds plus until you hear the drumroll sound then let the button go.
If that does not sort it try completely deleting the Tomtom software from your PC resorting it and reinstalling the latest software. If that does not work try again using Revo Uninstaller to help ensure all of the software is deleted.

As you suggested, I had to reinstall "My Drive Connect" and then the updating process finally started and ended.

Glad you are sorted.
For future reference do all updates one at a time and when you have finished them do a Soft Reset
