My Go 2505 is no longer able to get updates either. Latest map was 2011. 8.40. I see no information why Lifetime Updates just suddenly stop being downloadable, so Lifetime is a bad word to use when selling these devices. When will my VIA 1535 stop being allowed to download maps?

You haven't stated your 'Location' in your Profile ???
Use the appropriate link bellow and the first 2 characters of your serial number to check the Eol (End of Life) status of your device....
The GO 2505 is a USA/Canada model... If the first 2 characters of the serial number are 'SE' your device is either a TomTom GO 2505 or TomTom GO 2535 and updates through MyDrive Connect.
Important: Your device is no longer supported through phone , and it's not possible to buy new maps and services for your device. You can still get help through our user forum and FAQs.

Tomtom are monitoring Eol support by an Auto Response System
When prompted DO NOT provide your Tomtom model information, wait for a live agent to respond
