Hi – I’ve just tried updating my Carminat SD card for the built-in Tom Tom on my 2012 Renault Clio.

When I return to the car, put the card in, and switch on the engine, all I get is an egg timer, followed by a screen telling me to remove the SD card. When I do that, I get another screen telling me to insert the SD card. If I do, it returns to the original screen, asking me to take it out.

I’ve tried the reset procedure suggested here, but it makes no difference.

Since the screen now shows nothing but these messages, I can’t access the controls for anything else – Bluetooth, Radio, etc.

I’m going crazy trying to figure this out, please help!

Hi @jp235

Welcome to the community!

I have activated a map for your device.. So it should be offered for download when connected to TomTom HOME.

On this FAQ:https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18349

Could you try the steps 1/2/3/4

After that instead of installing the map from the back up stored on the computer try to check for updates. The UK and ROI map should be offered for download.

Regards
Vikram :)

Thank you for the advice, and for activating the map.

However, it has not changed anything. The display still just shows the a red X, and asks me to remove the SD card immediately. just as before.

Did you format the SD card on a computer? and in which file format?

Regards

I did, in FAT32, and with Quick Format unticked, and disconnected it from the PC correctly.

But still, putting the card into the SD slot on the satnav module resulted in a few seconds of the egg timer screen, followed by the red X.

Hi @jp235

Seems like the reinitialization process is not working.

I would suggest that you contact the car dealer for further help to sort this issue.

Regards
Vikram

Dragging up an old thread here, but I have a similar issue.
Vauxhall Vivaro 2012, Carminat TomTom Live.
Never updated the system until 2 days ago using TomTom Home.
Put SD card back in the van and now i have alternating screens between a yellow/red cross, egg timer, and asking to insert SD card.
All i did was update the card.
Like a melon i didn't first back up, as i did not think this would cause any issues.
I tried formatting the card and still no joy.
Restored the card, no joy.
I'm stuck, someone please help!

Here are the instructions I was given/ They saved my Satnav and my sanity:

there is a chance to reinstall your Carminat with the Navcore 9.884. But try it on your own risk.

Take a 4Gb SD card - no bigger or smaller, it has to be 4Gb/

Format it with FAT32 (no Quickformat)
Download the Navcore from here https://1drv.ms/u/s!AukJHVCqkQSNjEynlQ_9aUoKFuPb?e=LdU5CX

Unzip the File on your PC and copy the content of the folder "9.884.1609031_RC06.CAB-Dieppe" (not the folder itself) on the root of your SD-Card.

You should see a Folder "TomTom-Cfg" and two files "splashw.bmp" and "ttsystem"
Important is the approximately 91MB big "ttsystem"-File. This is the Firmware of the Carminat.

Safe eject the SD-Card from PC and put it in your Carminat. Turn Ignition on and then wait until the System is reinstall the Firmware (Navcore).

After that go back to PC with SD-Card and delete the content. Initialisize the SD-Card in the Carminat and go back to PC and install all Updates and Maps.

Hi JP
thanks for the advice!
I understand everything will be at my own risk, but is there potential for this to make things worse?
I have tried all sorts of other things, i guess this must be my last shot, but this makes it sound like the inbuilt Nav is buggered and this is a potential fix for it?
Thanks again
