Ok, bought the premium x in sale, so its been a while since I installed maps this way, has anything changed.

On my 6200, I installed a large map or a few until run out of room, then installed the UK and Europe map that then goes to the microSD. Then I removed the other maps and installed UK and Ireland

internal, UK Ireland (loads up first, and faster)
external UK and Europe, if I want it

since then just update when needed, over 2 years now, so this same? it never asked where map should be installed until room is almost up

    Hi
    @kingjohn6200

    The NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices like you’re Premium X normally update using Wi-Fi...

    TomTom Video... Updating your navigation device using Wi-Fi®

    If you have successfully connected your device to your Wi-Fi....
    To check your Connection Speed, Signal Strength & Quality
    On the Device... Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> Wi-Fi
    Tap on the Your Wi-fi name (The one Showing as connected)
    A new Menu Page opens

    7g8gwfpx1swt.jpg
    On the left-hand side of the screen is your Wi-Fi Connection Status

    Tomtom recommend a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
    Tomtom NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices will only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
    All the update actions are executed on the device...

    ___________________________

    If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
    See Option... (2) Connect over USB
    ___________________________

    Option... (1) Connected Wi-Fi
    Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items
    Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained... Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps

    I always update my devices one Update at a time
    The NavCore Application and QuickFixGPS updates are force ticked by Tomtom... Deselect any other updates like Maps, Speed Cams etc... Update the mandatory item/s first, when complete update the remaining items one at a time

    Note... NAV(5 Wifi) devices connected over Wifi do not require MyDrive Connect to be running Even if myDrive is running you have no access the MyDrive Connect menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices

    Option... (2) Connected USB
    If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
    Tomtom recommend a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
    Updating your new NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device over USB will require "MyDrive Connect"
    Get it here.....
    www.tomtom.com/getstarted
    Run MyDrive Connect.....
    Note... The NAV(5 Wifi) devices have no access the MyDrive Menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices
    Connect your Device to a USB Port on your PC
    Updating a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device using USB is the same as using Wi-Fi, all of the update actions are executed on the device...
    Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items
    Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained... Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps
    __________________________

    Note... MyDrive Connect will only show a "Splash screen" saying "Connect your device using Wifi" etc
    If required you can close the 'Main Mydrive Window' showing the "Connect your device using Wifi" Splash screen... MyDrive Connect only needs to run in the background on the PC TaskBar

    Not sure if you understood my question, this is about installing maps from new, not updating them. and its done in the device not by external programs

    Hi
    @kingjohn6200
    The GO 6200 & Premium use the same hardware

    Connect the the device as above
    Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> Maps --> Add a Map
    If the World Maps are not available
    Maybe @VikramK or @lampard the Forum Moderators will check/activate your Tomtom Premium X account....

    @YamFazMan

    World maps are active already :)

    @kingjohn6200

    As long as there is free or enough space the map will always get installed on the internal memory first.

    Only when there is a space constraint you will get the option to install the map on the external memory.

    Nothing changed there.

    Regards
    Vikram

    Hi
    @kingjohn6200

    Of course if you have the Inclination, Patience & World Maps at hand
    (1)... You can stuff the On-board Memory full of Maps....
    (2)... Install the required Map/s onto a Memory Card....
    (3)... Delete the Maps used to pad out the On-board memory
    But always leave a small map on the On-board Memory

    The advantage of the small Map would be plenty of working space on the device and the smaller map will also act as a 'Keeper' (Don't remove the small Map)... The Small Map it will enable the device to keep running and avoid the Catch22 situation No Maps Found Error, where the device won't boot-up past the No Maps Found Error to allow access to the 'Format option' to allow the use of a 16GB or 32GB Micro SDHC memory card
    Also if you ever need to remove the Micro SDHC Card for any reason... Like transferring pre-planned routes via a Micro SDHC Card or Formatting a new/replacement Micro SDHC Card, the Keeper Map will allow the device to keep running

    Turned out to be better, get offered the choice of internal or memory card for everything, so much quicker installing 2 maps.

    Nice to see Hong Kong map too, any for Japan? My favourite place for electronics
