What works with the Windows version, to try with the Mac version:
For connection loss of MDC, often a clean installation solves the problem. With your device Not connected to the PC:
1 / Uninstall MDC, accept the removal of downloads in the popup window.
2 / "Restart" your PC (Not Shut Down or Sleep)
3 / Download and install the last version MDC, take it here, at the bottom, the green button "Download for ...": https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/mydrive-connect/
4 / "Log in" with your email and password.
You have to remove MyDrive connect completely...download for free ..Revo uninstaller..this program completely removes all remnants of a program....once it removes My Drive Connect...then reinstall it
Or... Instead of UN-installing & RE-installing MyDrive Connect
I find deleting the "HOME3" and the "MyDrive Connect" folders in the MyDrive Connect Program just as effective for giving MyDrive Connect a CPR...

Thanks @YamFazMan
I'm on a Mac but have found the two folders you mentioned (Home3 and MyDriveConnect) and deleted them. Hurrah.. that's done the trick after a couple of frustrating weeks I've updated it successfully.
Many thanks for the advice.
On a Mac....
The "HOME3" and the "MyDrive Connect" folders are located here...
