Since my last Mydrive Connect update it doesn't seem to be able to connect to the Internet.

Is this a bug that can be rectified or it is an issue others are also having. It has never been an issue until the latest update.

You can try this:
with your device Not connected to the PC:
1/ Uninstall MDC, accept the removal of downloads in the popup window.
2/ "Restart" your PC (Not Shut down or Sleep)
3/ Download and install the last version MDC, take it here, at the bottom, the green button "Download for ... ":

4/ Try again to download an update.
If you want to donwload the map, do it alone, without any other item at the same time.
