Carminat loses signals from time to time

Have been advised our device is out of date and require a new update. I am not sure how to go about the update for UK. (Keep losing signal). Tried to telephone on 866-486-6866 but no connections - we are away shortly and desperately need a sat nav that will work. HELP.
