    Hi
    @gt1275

    A Drum-roll Soft Start can help.... Hold the ON/OFF Power button in until you hear a Drum-roll sound... Then release the button.... This will reinitialize the devices Operating System, like restarting your PC

    Fully charge the Battery (At least 2 Hours)
    A low battery can cause GPS Satellite fix problems
    First Plan a route on the device... Now place the device outside with a clear view to the sky
    (I used a a 5200 mAh battery power-pack... while waiting for a Satellite lock)
    It can take anything up to 30 Minutes to get the first Satellite Lock
    After the Initial 'First Lock' the device should lock quickly onto the Satellites

    My legacy ONE XL cannot find any satellites now. I have tried soft reset and GPS quickfix update through tomtom app. Any other suggestions or it is dead now?

    Hi @NikolayE

    Have you tried the suggestion in the post before yours from @YamFazMan. Well worth a try.

    Just make sure you are well away from buildings and trees when you do it.

    I haven't tried being well away, but can definitely try that. I tired these steps above being next to my house. Put the route in and left it overnight. In the morning it was still looking for satellite.

    Hi
    @NikolayE

    If your still struggling to get a GPS Fix
    Try....
    I have found with my Car parked on the drive, if I placed the device on the centre of the Cars roof (I used one of those 'Sticky' rubber mats to stop it sliding off the roof)
    The device will obtain it's first GPS Satellite lock more quickly... The metal roof of the Car acts as a ground-plane for the SatNav GPS Antenna and increases the signal strength

    Test... GO 825 Live connected to a 5200 mAh battery power-pack... PND Displaying 'GPS Status Menu'
    (1)... Centre of Car roof (Parked on drive).....
    Signal strength 86% Connected Satellites 9
    (2)... Outside clear view to the sky.....
    Signal strength 61% Connected Satellites 6
    (3)... Indoors 1st floor one metre from window.....
    Signal strength 51% Connected Satellites 4
    (4)... Indoors ground floor one metre from window.....
    Signal strength 41% Connected Satellites 3

    DON'T FORGET... If your using the cars roof
    Keep an eye on the device, you wouldn't want a family member driving off not knowing its on the roof or a Thief walking off with your SatNav

    Also its a long drop from the Cars roof onto the hard surface of the drive, I doubt a SatNav would survive a fall like that

    Use the above information at your own risk, the usual exclaimers apply

    Hello!

    My grandpa is using a "GO LIVE 825" and i never had problems updating it. Recently there is no GPS signal anymore. I've went through MyDrive connect & through the website for updates, although i always ended up in a closed loop telling me that the device is no more supported (like newer maps take up more space etc.).

    Does this means that there is no way that he can still use the device jsut with older maps? Sounds awfull to me that the device becomes totally useless jsut ebcomes of bigger map files. He should still eb able to sue it just with the older ones?
    Im only getting "discount offers" on newer devices because of some "long year loyalty".

    Hi
    @marinmarin

    Was the device at the time of purchase... Sold with Lifetime Map updates or have you been paying a yearly Map Update subscription ???

    Hi there. I have done the GPS fix update now for the 5th time. I work away from home all week and each week when i get home there is a new GPS fix for downloading through MyDrive. Any ideas when this will be the last version I need to update as I have just installed it again today?
  • moleratmolerat Posts: 40 [Sovereign Trailblazer]
    The QuickGPSfix needs doing weekly, it is an update that tells the device where to look for the satellites rather than trying to find them from scratch. If you leave an out of date one on it can have the effect of looking in the wrong place and may not lock on at all - happened to me a few years ago whilst on holiday. Either delete the file or update weekly.

    Hi

    QuickGPSfix file is released daily, the Data in the file is good for the Next 7 Days
    The Live devices also receive the QuickGPSfix over the air the Data is good for the Next 4 Days... So you don't have to update every day
    ON the NAV3 devices If you are running NavKit 12.07 and the Battery is fully charged, if you follow my 2nd & 3rd Post you should get a Satellite lock

    if you use the device regularly, you don't need to....
    I hardly ever bother....

    If you haven't used the device for a while or you have travelled a very long distance from the using the device last, it wise to update the QuickGPSfix for the initial first fix
    Google... Time to first fix

    If the Device in in regular use its already a Hot or Standby Start

    So, like others, got the Update request telling that after April, my TomTom 920 won't work and so tried to update it and now it is completely broke. Well, it tries to boot up to the SD Card, I've never used an SD card in this device. I've tried updating it with my Mac and now it doesnt get recognised by the Home app although the devices drive shows up, is there a way to re-image that and also get it to boot from the internal hard drive? I've even tried on a Windows machine and not had much success.

    So, our TomTom Start 20 is stuck at the 'waiting for valid GPD signal' screen. Tried all installing all the updates and it is still not working. I left it on this afternoon and it took 1 hour for it to finally pick up the GPS signal.

    Am considering replacing it but definitely not with another TomTom as this has had very little use and is no longer working. Can anyone recommend a better brand of satnav to buy which is more reliable?
