If your charger had an USB outlet and the new one too, it should be compatible. USB power outlets are standardised worldwide.5

TomTom are quite heavy on the amount of current that they use, hence "some" light-duty Phone-Chargers are not adequate (they can be as low as 0.5A).
I would be cautious about using a device that delivers less than !a, in fact, I would suggest trying to get one that can deliver 2A!5
