    Hi,

my dad called me tonight about a suspicious experience when trying to update his tomtom device.

He told me that he received a call from a supposed support agent who eventually took control of his computer screen. My dad eventually just turned off the computer and hung up on the caller and then called me up for help. Apparently he visited this website: https://gpsdeviceupdates.com

The site is very well designed with reasonable content but it lacks a proper imprint. It is obviously targeting a German audience but the servers seem to be located in Iceland and the domain has been registered only about 8 months ago.

Is this a contracted partner of tomtom or a scam?

    Best,
    Jakob

    Hi @jakobherpich

That is not a genuine TT website but one purporting to be one.

I had a similar encounter today with https://tomtomeasyupdates.com/ - it came up as the top listing on my google search, and didn't realise til later it was an add not the official site.

    Number: 03301133588, Ext no : 107 - James

The chat bot got an engineer to ring me as my Tomtom is continually restarting. He told me my Network Security was down and tried to sell me 'Firewall Security'. I said I would discuss with my partner and call him back as I hadn't thought I'd need to pay to get my device fixed. I then looked it up and realised it was a scam site.

I called TomTom a number I found on Google 023 8212 3340 to find out about my expired Speed Cameras. The technical team asked me to update my Sat Nav, but I told them it was already updated, but I had trouble with MyDrive Connect. They asked me to call them back once my TomTom was connected to the laptop which I did. After them entering my computer, they tried to sell me Microsoft Security, showed me all the "viruses" on my pc. I suddenly smelled a rat and disconnected. What the hell? This telephone number I used is on the Tomtom site - err I think>

I too have been in contact with these scammers. To be honest they are able to run this scam because they are a lot easier to contact than support on TomTom which is impenetrable and consists of mainly irrelevant FAQs.

    Hi @mickbiden2

    Try the following:-

Tap Support at the top of this page
You then HAVE to Sign in Top Right of next Page. (you have to do this)
When signed in, and not before, Tap Contact Us bottom right
Help Box appears and at the bottom is a message option
Type Contact or Chat in the box
If Chat is available you should be offered the chance to Tap Live Chat
If it is Out of Hours for Chat you should be offered an option to message

If it does not work exactly as described then try another Web Browser.
