TomTom- No GPS Signal 2019 | Week Number Roll-Over | TIMER Reset 00.00 | Error-"You cannot use this map"

https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/1112782/tomtom-no-gps-signal-2019#latest

No maps installed and can't access Menu to format memory card - CANNOT INSTALL MAPS!!!

Strange situation. I have a GO 5000. It ran out of space for the latest maps on my 16GB memory card.

It did not tell me I would run out of space, it just ran out during downloading and corrupted the map. So now my device has no maps.

So bought a 32GB memory card.

When I log in to TomTom My Drive Connect, it says there is not enough space and does not recognise the memory card.

As per TomTom help files I reformatted the memory card (Samsung) in Windows 10. Still did not work.

On the device, it just says no maps available, and the menu button is not available so I cannot access the card format options inside the device.

So I am currently stuck. I cannot install any maps, the memory card is not recognised, I cannot access the Meu in the device. I can't do anything.

When you inserted the card in the device, did it offer to format it (it should)?

What brand card did you use? I feel a 16 gb SanDisk card proves most reliable.

With your card in the device, do a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. See if it offers to format the card then.

I had the same problem too.... :s :/

You need to download a map (a small one ) on the internal memory of your device (whithout SDcard inserted) , otherwise it will not work... I choose the first small one that my mouse clic.... it was Iraq... very small !!!
you can delete it after your main installation !!!
After that, you can format and install a new map on an empty SDcard without any problem...
    :) ;) B)

I found this by myself after many many ... many tries .. !!!! :'( :#

I've asked this question to support on 04/03/2019 morning and they don't yet answer or even put a mark to say they have read my question....

    Hi @BigRedtt

Just checking. When you reformatted the SD card in your PC did you do it to Fat32 then as @dhn says did your GO5000 reformat it when you installed the card and did it ask what you wanted it formatted for. . Samsung card should be okay they work in mine.

I had the same problem with my 610 this weekend, now my Europe map is installed on my memory card, doesn't matter if SD card is in or not, My Drive will install another country to the deice, once that is installed you will be able to format the SD card on the TT then install Europe to the SD card

    Hi.
I'm really frustrated. I have exactly the same problem on Tomtom Go 5000 after upgrade yesterday. Memory card no longer recognized = not enough room to install map. All my maps are too large to fit on internal memory.
Tried to format memory card (FAT32) on PC, but Tomtom device doesn't recognize it. Three seconds after reboot it halts with message "No data available".
I'm stuck and not able to use my device at all. So stupid, Tomtom!

    Hi
    @fstrange

Your Go 5000 has 8GB of onboard memory... the devices operating system uses some of the 8GB onboard memory + the operating system need a further minimum of 400KB free working space ( The more working space the better the performance of the device)
The Latest Europe Map is near as dammit 9GB, you cant put a quart into a pint pot

If your GO 5000 still has the original Map installed on the onboard memory, maybe tomorrow @VikramK or @lampard the Forum Moderators will allocate a smaller Map to your Account, you could then delete the original Map from the on-board memory and replace it with the smaller Map... You can then Install the Full Europe Map onto a Branded Class 10 16GB or (32GB...Max size) Micro SDHC Card

This is a an unfortunate but real Catch22 situation
The advantage of the small Map would be plenty of working space on the device and the smaller map will also act as a 'Keeper'... This will enable the device to keep running on the smaller Map and avoid the Catch22 situation No Maps Found Error, where the device won't boot-up past the No Maps Found Error to allow access to the 'Format option' to allow the use of a 16GB or 32GB Micro SDHC memory card
Also if you ever need to remove the Micro SDHC Card for any reason... Like transferring pre-planned routes via a Micro SDHC Card or Formatting a new/replacement Micro SDHC Card, the Keeper Map will allow the device to keep running

    Hi @fstrange

I have activated a smaller map of UK and ROI on your account.

Try installing this first on the internal memory on the device.

Then use a memory card (16GB) format it on the device, then connect it to the computer to install the full Europe map(MyDrive Connect).

    Regards
    Vikram :)

    Hi Vikram,
Thank you for your help, I haven't got a card slot on my device - it is a Tom Tom XXL, but I will try downloading the Europe maps and let you know how I get on.

    Hi all,

Exactly in the same situation here. GO 5000, no map, all Europe maps available are larger than internal memory. May I also get some small map activated on my account to get out of this loop? Thank you.

    Hi
    @clarinet

Yes the v1030 Full Europe Map size is now 9.13GB
On Monday maybe the Forum Moderators @VikramK or @lampard will allocate a smaller Map to your Account

Update, managed to fix it in my case...

From memory, we ended up removing the memory card and that allowed us to install a smaller map to the installed memory. Can't remember what map, basically the smallest one available (I have free World maps so can choose any). I didn't even want this map, but the Europe one was too big for internal memory so just installed the smallest size map they had.

Once that was done it basically unlocked the options again and everything went back to normal. So I could then put the memory card back in and install my additional maps to the memory card.

    Worked for me!

    Thank you, @BigRedtt.

Unfortunately, I cannot currently choose a small map. I have free lifetime Europe maps; there are variants available (they differ in 3D buldings coverage), but none of them fits to the GO 5000 memory.

My only hope is that moderators will assign an extra small map to my account as mentioned above so that I can install something on the device itself.

    Hi @clarinet

    Welcome to the community!

A smaller map of UK and ROI has been added for your device.

When connected to MyDrive Connect, you should be able to download it to the internal memory of the device.

    Regards
    Vikram

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Identical issue to me, except you cannot add a small map yourself as you have subscription only to Europe, which is bigger than the internal memory.

I see above that the mods here have manually given your account access to a small map to allow the workaround.

All this said, it should not need this workaround at all. This is a very bad bug from tomtom!

    Hello,

I have same problem as user clarinet stated above. On my GO600 I deleted map from device so I can update it, but now there is no enough space for new Europe map version and in my account there is no small map to choose. Also I can not access to format micro sd card to expand memory. Please moderator assign some small memory map to my account so I can format my micro sd card and then install Europe map update. Like this my device is useless. Thank you

    HI @Salkreno

See if @VikramK sees this tomorrow and allocates a map.

Thank you all. I confirm I have now a small map available in my account so I could install it, format the microSD card and try to install a big map of Europe.

However, the installation of the big map takes ages (calculated time is about 2 hours of upload time) and two trials already failed somewhere near the end. I am running the third trial now. Are there any tips on how to speed up the upload?

Hello! @VikramK or others that may help, I'm having this exact problem on my GO40.

My microSD card stop working (which is strange all by itself, but I guess it happens).
Now I can't format my new card and the internal memory doesn't have enough space to install my europe map (even the smaller versions without buildings - it misses by about 30MB).

If you could please allocate any map to my account so I can format my card, I would very much appreciate it!

    Thank you.

    Hi
    @clarinet

Are you using a Laptop.. If 'Yes' is it hard-wired back to the router or over Wi-Fi
How fast/slow is your Internet connection

I'm using Virgin Media 110MB/s Fibre optic broadband

Full Europe Map about 50/55 Mins

I’ll leave feedback once I get home and try it out.

    @YamFazMan

Thanks. The maps are already downloaded. I only need to upload them to the device and it takes a couple of hours. The predicted time in MyDrive Connect is 2 hours, but in reality it takes even more.

same catch22 situation here... @VikramK could you please activate a small map of Italy to my account so that I can finally get my new SD card and my lifetime EU maps back to work?
