Transferring POI's from Pro 5150 to Pro 620. Some do, some don't!!! — TomTom Community

Transferring POI's from Pro 5150 to Pro 620. Some do, some don't!!!

Just bought a Pro 620 to replace my aging Pro 5150.

I've followed the procedure on the TomTom support pages to transfer my POI's from my old device to the new one using using MyDrive

I have 4 POI categories that I have created (one was my Favourites that I have transferred to POI's as per TomToms instructions.

3 categories appear on the 620, but the 4th (and most important one for me as it has over 100 of my delivery points in it!) hasn't.

The POI heading appear in My Places, but when I click to open it, it says "No POIs found"

I've tried resetting the 620 but still no POIs!

Anyone else had this issue & solved it?

Thanks for the reply YamFazMan but the methods in the link describe how I originally loaded my poi's to my Pro 620. This worked for 3 of my personally created community poi categories but not the 4th.

I've now sorted the problem by uploading the offending poi file to and then saving the file back to my computer (no editing of poi file required, just load then save).

When I then load it to My Places on Mydrive it sync to the device & they all now show up :grinning:

    Cheers, Nez

    Glad you're sorted :relaxed:
Yes some POI files that worked on the older Tomtom models do not show on the latest NAV4 devices
As you say If you Load and then Save the POI file to/from the online POI editor...
As far as I'm aware it changes/updates the POI file header

Also, try loading the file into Softops POI editor... If it's an iffy file it usually won't load

Cheers, I must say the Nav4 s/w takes some getting used to.

Personally I think the way it handles POI's is a shambles!

My old Nav3 5150 was way more intuitive for a professional driver who requires lots of locations to be stored under multiple categories.

Nav 4 may be easier for the average motorist, but IMO falls way short for those that work on the road all day everyday!

Here's hoping TomTom eventually see this & at least make an update available for those that need to navigate to hundreds of locations!

Here's a tip I use for my Personal POI Categories
Instead scrolling down a long list of POI Categories to find your Personal POI Categories (I have 107 POI Categories)
If you have the Personal POI Categories saved to your computer

If you rename them for example "_Favorites (Note "_Favorites.ov2" The Underscore before the "_F" is not displayed on the Tomtom screen, but it forces the POI category to the top of the POI list on the device
Note... You can rename the file on the MDW Route planner when you install the Personal POI Category

Also there are two search engines...
Tap the 4Dot (....Menu) --> Setting --> System... Choose a search mode
The default Quick Search is excellent for general searches

The Step by Step search is very good for POI searches
You don't have to scroll down a long list of PIO categories to find the one you want
(I have 107 POI Categories installed)

Using the Step by Step search
Tap the 4Dot (....Menu) --> Drive To --> Point of interest... Choose Where to search
    Near me
    In a Town or City
    Along route
    Near destination....

Type the POI category name you wish to search
A list of the individual POI from the Category are listed (using the parameters from 'Choose Where to search')
Tap the Blue Keyboard Icon (Screen bottom right) to clear the keyboard and display more of the scrollable list
Tap the dual function Icon to Toggle between the 'Map display'/'List Mode'

But Note... In the Step by Step search Mode there is problem with the 'Address search 'option where Postcodes requires an Street name/Road name before you can search for a Postcode (The Quick Search mode is the BEST for postcode searches)
