To be fair, Black Friday has always been a bit of a gimmick (originally thought up by the Yanks) and often sales claim to be "Up to 50% off" or equal BS.
The truth is, if a product has been advertised for sale by a company anywhere in the country for (I think, 14 days or more) the retailers can claim "50% discount"
Example, a 52" TV is advertised at £500 in just ONE of their stores somewhere in the middle of nowhere for 14 days (and not expecting to sell any in that period in that store) so THEN the London etc branch can price it at £250 legally claiming "50% discount" irrespective of the fact that in most of their stores they normally sold this for £300 anyway. Caveat Emptor!
