Tom Tom Via 1530/1535 is frozen at "Updating Device" / "Waiting for your device" despite the fact that the device is connected to the laptop. Very frustrating. I have problems during the quarterly update almost EVERY TIME I do it.
Is the cable you are using to connect to the computer the one that came with the device? Might you have an antivirus interfering with proper transmission?
