Can't move ttbin file from PC to MySports or Strava

stonksstonks Posts: 2 [Apprentice Traveler]
Generally my watch syncs well with my phone and my runs are uploaded to TomTom Sports and Strava.

When I tried to sync my latest run, it apparently failed as it did not upload to either TomTom Sports or Strava. Bizarrely, the run I did previous to it (and had not yet synced), synced to both perfectly.

The run that I am missing on TomTom Sports and Strava is still visible on my watch.

Following previously published guidance, I located the file on my phone (via iTunes) and saved it as a ttbin file to my PC (Windows). I cannot seem to make the next stage work though. When I double click the file, it opens the TomTom Sports Connect programme on my PC, but all this says is that the watch is charging. When I go to settings, there is not a 'Try Again' button for me to click on, which is what previous answers to this question say there should be.

Some answers also suggest placing the ttbin file in the serial number directory 'Windows: C:\Users\[user name]\TomTom MySports\[serial number]' - but I don't know how to do this. I need a complete idiots guide! How do I do this and how to find out what the serial number is?

Please help!

The double click has not worked in several years. You need to follow these directions(which is about as simple as it gets, just move the file form one directory to another).

    1. Exit MySports Connect on your computer (you must use a computer to reupload – right click on the tray icon and select Exit).
    2. Locate the ttbin files (if they are not there the activity is lost and not recoverable - what is on the watch is just summary data, all the detail is gone). On a PC the ttbins are saved in a dated folder for the date of the activity under C:\Users\{User Name}\TomTom MySports\{Watch Name}. On Apple Devices, connect your device to the computer, open iTunes, select your device in the iTunes sidebar, select MySports on the Apps tab under File Sharing and the ttbin files are listed on the right-hand side. Right-click (Mac: ctrl-click) a file to copy it and save it to your computer. In Android, the ttbin files are stored on the internal SD in (/sdcard/TomTom_MySports/[serial number of watch]/workouts/uploaded/).
    3. Copy them to your computer
    4. Place the ttbin files in the serial number directory:
    Windows: C:\Users\[user name]\TomTom MySports\[serial number]
    Mac: [home dir]/TomTom Sports/[serial number]
    5. Restart MySports Connect and connect your watch
    6. Go the Settings page (click the gear icon on the top right) and press the 'Try again' button to re-upload the files.

I hope this helps answer your question. If so, please mark it as a solution so others can look for it if they have the same question.

Hello and thank you for your answer.

It's good to know that the double click method doesn't work any more - I must have been reading old threads.

I'm getting stuck at step 4 in the instructions above. How do I place files in the serial number directory and how do I find out what the serial number is?

    Thank you in anticipation!

You place files by copying them in an Explorer window. the exact method will depend if you are on a Windows or Mac computer but it really is one of the most basic things you do on a computer, it is copying and pasting or dragging and dropping a file. There will only be one folder named after a serial number so you really don't need to know it.

I hope this helps answer your question. If so, please mark it as a solution so others can look for it if they have the same question.

I have a similar problem. I tried to upload a swimming workout using the iPhone application yesterday. Everything went well except the workout didn't appear on TomTom MySports.

I found the workout file on iTunes and followed the above instructions to copy it on my laptop. However, there is not tray icons on the MS Windows TomTom Sports Connect although I exit and reconnect. What can I do? The ttbin file size is is in line with the other swimming ttbin files, so I would assume the file is ok.

Could you please have a file upload functionality on tomtom.com please? And what's the benefit of using ttbin files if it causes headaches like these? This is not the first time I'm having problems with uploading activities from the watch to online.

If there is no tray icon it means you do not have Sports Connect running. Also go into settings and make sure you do not have it set to only show notifications. There is no file upload coming, TT Sports went out of business over a year and ceased all development and production, they are no longer updating the devices or the website.
