Slow maps download. This go 520 is great in all respects except one. Slow map update download - 24 hours approx over WiFi at 100 mb/s. Had one update a couple of weeks ago 24 hours. Another map update today 8 gb approx. Been updating for 6 hours and it’s only at 40%. Any tips or help appreciated and to TomTom ‘what is going on!?!??. Very upset

A little bit more info. It finished installing after 17 hours!!! This just ridiculous. I also updated my Mac the same day about 2.5 gb, it took around 12 mins. Also updated a windows machine the same day and it took around 45 mins including all the windows restart procedure. What is going on with this GO 520??? Any help or tips appreciated. This tomtom go 520 is less than a year old. Seriously thinking of ditching this for something else.

    Hi
    @T bird
Is your Mac hardwired to the router ???
I assume you updated the GO 520 over Wi-Fi (What's your Wi-Fi connection speed
How Fast/Slow is your internet connection speed ???
Are you running any Port monitoring programs

Try the 'Which' broadband speed test....
    https://broadbandtest.which.co.uk/

    Here's a handy online download Speed/File Size/Time calculator....
    http://www.download-time.com/

My Win10 PC is hardwired to the router 110 mb/s
I always Update over USB With MyDrive connect running in the background
    NAV5 GO 620 (Wi-Fi)... My Wi-Fi over Virgin Super Hub 40mb/s
The NAV5 Devices update on the fly i.e... No Download then Upload/Install
Updated Full Europe Map v1010... Over USB... 24 Mins

Hi and thanks. My Mac and my windows machines are all connected by WiFi. My speed test runs at 106 mb/sec download and about 4.5 mb/sec upload. when updating the go 520 all the pcs and macs were switched off. I just don’t know what is going on. We have two iPhones which I updated recently to the latest iOS, probably around 5 or 6 gb both downloaded and installed within and hour. Any thoughts? If I was thinking in laptop terms, it’s as if there’s no RAM in my go 520. I dread the next update.

Are all these languages supposed to be there? I mean are they installed by default?

You can delete the languages which you won't use, though it's unlikely to help the update speed.

I wonder if the WiFi receiver of your 520 has some conflict with your WiFi system so it ends up retransmitting a lot of packets. One thing to try: Connect your 520 to your Mac using a USB cable (NOT the mount, just the cable). Run MyDriveConnect on your Mac. Then try to update. When connected to your Mac with MyDriveConnect you're using the Mac's WiFi instead of the the TomTom's. You can even turn off the WiFi on the TomTom just to confirm this.

Ok, I’ll try your suggestion next time there is a map update. Thanks for the idea.
