I have just purchased a new Start 52
Installed the latest version of MyDrive Connect and plugged the unit into a usb port
MyDrive connect detects the device but when i click on add device the device starts doing an update and says keep your device connected the update will resume in a few minutes
MyDrive connect says connection lost please reconnect your device.
Its just stuck in this loop.
I have taken the Windows 10 back to a fresh install so no anti-virus or anything else installed
If i now power the start 52 on it says no maps are installed
Any help would be greatly appreciated

See page 90 of the manual http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/start_42_52_62/refman/TomTom-START-EU-RG-en-gb.pdf
Also this FAQ (no maps) https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/166930 -
Niall.
Thanks for your response, i have looked at page 90 and the FAQ but i dont see how these me.
I cant re-install a map as i cant get the device added to MDC.
I have done everything on page 90, MDC just disconnects as soon as i press on Add device, but the device stays connected.

Are your USB ports set for power saving "USB Selective Suspend"
Win7 See... http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/147369-usb-selective-suspend-turn-off.html
Win10 See… https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/73187-turn-off-usb-selective-suspend-windows-10-a.html
Click on link and scroll down to "Turn Off USB Selective Suspend"
Also turn off any Screen savers any other Power savers or USB port monitoring software installed

Thanks, i have no option for USB power options available.
I set the option to disabled via the command line for both plugged in and on power.
I have no screen savers or monitoring software installed.
I still have the same issue, add device the device starts updating but then the ink to MDC drops out.

Hi
@webster1234
Are you by any chance running a Surface Pro 3 or 4
Random Disconnects on Surface Pro 3 & 4
Do you have or have access to a 'Surface Dock', if so plug your device into a USB port on that. Others have found that to work
On the Win10 tablets, Microsoft has hidden the "USB Selective Suspend" menu
You will need to edit the Registry for the USB Selective Suspend menu to show

@webster1234
Can you connect the device directly to the computer--not through a hub. See if that helps.0 -
dhn.
That was what i was originally trying but as soon as the device starts doing an update after selecting add device it disconnects

Can you connect your laptop via Ethernet to your router?
Have you got a USB2 port on your laptop?
Also check https://en.discussions.tomtom.com/mydrive-connect-apps-474/how-to-stop-your-device-from-killing-your-windows-wifi-network-connection-9904150 -
Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. Then connect to MDC and see if that helps.0

Guys.
Thanks for all your help and guidance, after lots of messing about i decided it was an issue with Windows 10 and the USB ports.
I trashed Windows 10 and installed Windows 7 and it worked first time and updated ok, at least i now have a functioning and up to date unit.
I will put Windows 10 back on and see if i can work out what the issue is, i will report back if i get it working.

@dhn
i have looked at the article above in the article it says
In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters to open it. Right-click TomTom and click Uninstall.
In Network adapters my device is listed as a
Remote NDIS Compatible Device
is this correct?0 -
Hi all
@webster1234
Normally yes. Look at this FAQ and this video.
Try reinstalling the driver.
