Adding device to account- error message\ mydrive connect

I have a start 25 device which I bought from a friend. Its been removed from her devices, and I have done a full factory reset. When adding it to my account it brings up an error message as follows: 'We are sorry something has gone wrong. It is currently not possible to add your device to your account. Please try again.' My account is new.
I have tried again countless times and no joy. Device is connected and switched. I'm stumped, can anyone help?

Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. (this is different from a factory reset)0
