Have just been looking at the TomTom MyDrive Android App.

Am VERY surprised just how many "Permissions" that it insists that it needs (before it will let you install it):-
  • Identity
  • Contacts
  • Location
  • SMS
  • Photo/Media/Files
  • Camera
  • WiFi connection Information
  • Bluetooth Connection Information
Sorry, but when everyone is rightly concerned about Privacy Intrusion, perhaps TomTom would care to explain why EACH one of the Categories are "ESSENTIAL" to the workings of this APP??

Needless to say, I did NOT install it!!

Regards,

John-Jay

    Hi John-Jay,

The Android app uses the following permissions:

    Identity
Used so you do not have to enter username and password each time upon launching the app

    Contacts
Allows the app to show your contacts on the map.

    Location
Allows the app to show your current location on the map.

    SMS
Allows the app to handle incoming text messages for TomTom devices that support this. Not used for anything else.

    Phone
Allows the app to handle incoming calls for TomTom devices that support this. Not used for anything else.

    Photos/Media/Files
Allows the app to store/cache data on the SD card. Not used for anything else.

    Camera
Needed to scan the QR code as part of setting up the connection with your TomTom device. Not used for anything else.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Pascal
