Using external card with the GO 520 WiFi

Hi

I am going around in circles with User Support so I thought I would try this forum

My problem is as follows

I have a TomTom GO 520 WiFi. Installed on this system are both American and
European maps. It has told me that updates are available. I opted to apply the
updates one at a time doing the European maps first. This update completed OK.
However when I tried to update the American maps the update fails saying that
there is not enough space. The TomTom tells me that I have 70.56MB free in
internal memory however the update must require more work space.

I have an external memory card (32GB) installed on the TomTom. It recognised
the card and successfully formatted it.

How do I use this card. I thought that if I moved either one of the 2 maps over
on to the card then there would be no issues about space. But I cannot see
any options that will allow me do this

I have copied here the response that I got from User support

The device is designed in such a way that the updates will only install on the external memory (SD Card), if the internal memory of your device is full.
If the map of Europe and USA both are installed on your device this means the internal memory of your device is not full.
May I apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

The above response does nothing to help me resolve the issue. in point of fact it
is nearly suggesting that I should not have a problem at all.

Any advice would be appreciated

Gerard

    @Hanwayg

    Try this:

Add a small map through Add Maps on your device. New Zealand should do. See if it installs on internal. If so, then try again with the American map.

    Hi dnn

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Following on from that suggestion I have resolved my problem

    Here is what I did.

I downloaded a map that was bigger than the remaining internal free space that I had
on the device. This map downloaded successfully and was installed on the external SD card. I did this to prove to myself that the TomTom device would use the SD card.

Once this download was successful I then downloaded a new copy of the US map
This was installed on the SD card.

I then checked maps installed on the device and removed the duplicate US map and the
test map that I first downloaded.

Settings now show that I have both of my original maps installed, with one of them
(The European map) installed in internal memory, and the US map installed on
    the SD card.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Regards

    Gerard
