Start device + USB cable

I am trying to update the software for my Start device via my apple MacBook pro. The usb port on the laptop does not have the normal type but a smaller squarish type. This means that the usb cable supplied with the Start device cannot be plugged into the laptop direct because of the incompatible plug. I use a 4 port hub adapter for all other uses, but the Start device 'refuses' to allow it and the laptop to connect. Can I get a different Start USB cable (if so, from where?, or how do I overcome the adapter problem?
Any help/ideas greatly appreciated!
