Multisport watch

I bought a multi sport watch about a year ago.
My problem is it has suddenly started giving me super high pulse rates while running for nearly the entire time I am running. My max heart rate is around 161. Now my readings for extended periods of time, ( in excess of 25 minutes) range from 200- 180 BPM even on easy runs.

Additional information:
I use a chest strap for the heart rate monitor.
Heart rate is correct when I use it in the gym.
GPS data is correct .
Watch holds charge well.
Outside temperature has ranged from 110 - 36 over the past 3 months so I don't think that is a factor.

Actions taken to try to correct the problem:
I reset the watch.
I bought a new battery for the chest strap.
I make sure that the chest strap is tight and the contacts are wet.
I even shaved my chest to make sure contacts were tight on my chest.
I down load watch data after every three work outs.

This issue is constant and has started about a 3 months ago.
Strange that it gives me correct heart rate vales in the gym but not when I run outside?
Something to due when the GPS is being utilized at the same time as the heart rate function?

    At this point I would suggest calling Customer Support to see what they can do. They are able to more deeply investigate and diagnose problems than we can here on the user forum. To get the number for Customer Support, go to tomtom.com/support, choose Contact at the bottom, select the service required and the product name and click Contact Customer Care and then Phone Us. It will give you the phone number for the country your account is registered under (this can be changed by clicking the flag icon in the bottom right corner of the screen).
