TomTom 'MyDrive' - Postcode changes to search results

Dave8472Dave8472 Posts: 7 [Master Explorer]
Hi, can someone tell me why and what has changed, you put a postcode in and it now gives me a list of 10-15 places I don't want to go locally ? The postcode isn't even in the list of places shown !!! I have to go to Google Maps, get the exact GPS position and then copy that in, very frustrating when planning a trip for the next day. Many of my destinations are in rural area's and I don't need directions to loads of business... just the postcode I have entered...

PS it used to work just fine. All OK on the actual device by the way, just Mydrive

    Hi
Yes I agree the MyDrive Web (v2) route planner is now virtually useless when trying to plan a route
Why on earth they gave POIs the priority during a search when most people would want an address

Also, out of the 36 houses in my road, only 16 return an address, the others including mine, don't exist according to the latest MyDrive (Web) Route planner???

Why would I be looking for POIs when I'm searching for an address???

I did a search the other day using a coordinate and all I got was a list of houses with a 4 digit house number + the addresses... The house number matching the first 4 digits of the coordinate ???

The previous update improved the routing, now we have a step backwards with the search engine

Hi, ME13 9QS was the last post code I had trouble with, working fine in Google Maps, and used to work in My Drive, also CT4 6NG. Most of my post codes I go to are rural address

    Thanks Dave

Hi this problem is still happening, is there a update planned? as "mydrive" has become useless now.

I too would like to record a postcode problem with YO17 9LB. I was unable to locate the Burythorpe House Hotel in Burythorpe. Found it ok with Google Maps.

Same problem, rural postcodes are not recognised in MyDrive, which just returns a list of nearby POIs - examples:
postcode TQ13 0AD - Ugbrooke House & Gardens in Devon
postcode LA6 3DP - Greenwood Leghe caravan park in Yorkshire - both unrecognised in MyDrive route planner, but not an issue in Google Maps.

I have given up even attempting to use the planner, it is absolutely useless, at least it is for me!

Agree entirely with the above comments. Latest version of MyDrive no longer supports loaction search for domestic address by UK post code.
    Example: BR2 9GQ.
It merely provides a list of commercial businesses in the vicinity.
    TomTom that is completely useless!
Google maps works perfectly. Also, thank goodness the hardware (in my case a GO6100) does have post code search working.
My guess is whoever engineered this feature change in TomTom is actually a plant working for the competition; a great idea to get customers to leave...

I couldn’t agree more – why why why doesn’t MyDrive recognise the post code. When I search for a post code I want to go to that post code not a portaloo hire firm or a dog grooming parlour half a mile away!

I have given up and now go onto Google maps, search for the postcode, write down the Lat and Lon Coordinates, enter them into MyDrive and then send it to my SatNav. What a total farce!

I spoke to TomTom customer services about this a couple of months ago and got absolutely no where.

While we are on the subject on MyDrive why can’t I select places from my imported POI lists?

TOMTOM ARE YOU LISTENING? Is it really that difficult?

I say again 'TOMTOM ARE YOU LISTENING?'

I can only suggest using Mapcode to search for a Postcode and entering the Mapcode directly into your TomTom.

    e.g. UK postcode: BR2 9GQ --> UK mapcode: MX.8F2

Although is this any better than just using a postcode search directly on the TomTom?

    Hi
While we are on the subject on MyDrive why can’t I select places from my imported POI lists
    You can....
For example... I have loaded the 3rd party POIs for the National Trust... To show the POI's for "National Trust" on the map, work your way down to option (2)

    From the main screen
Tap (....)4Dot Icon (Screen Bottom left)
Swipe left or Tap the mid/right edge of the screen to go to and tap the MyPlaces Icon
Scroll down and select the required POI Category For example "National Trust"
    You now have three options
The Main search area turns blue and "National Trust" is offered with a flashing cursor
Continue typing the name of the required "National Trust" site, Type dud(maston) (Or as much of the word that's required for Dudmaston Hall appear at the top of the National trust list
Tap on Dudmaston Hall and select the Drive Icon

You also have two further options.....
After the initial "National Trust" POI selection
There's a dual Icon (screen bottom right) with Three Lines and Two circles
(1)..... Tap the three Lines Icon (bottom right screen) and a list will appear of the "National Trust" sites in distance order
(2)...... Tap the Two circle Icon for the "National Trust" sites POI's to appear on the screen (Pinch zoom for detail) (Note..... On the Start range it's easier to tap the plus and minus buttons to zoom the map screen)
as far as I'm aware it will show the nearest 60ish POI's around your location

Screen bottom right, there is also a Keyboard Icon to return to the search window from the options (1) and (2)

The generic Icons on the search screen, the Icons are dynamic so the closer you zoom more icons appear
You can, of course, tap one of the generic Icons to open a quick menu with the name of the POI... The option to Drive there and a 3Dot Icon with further options

Hi CatNip & YamFaz Man – I don’t want to appear to be rude but did you actually read my posting? My complaint is solely about the ‘TomTom My Drive’ software portal……not my TomTom sat nav.

The whole idea of the ‘My Drive’ web portal is that you can pre-select journeys from the comfort of your sofa or kitchen table while eating your breakfast and then send them directly to your TomTom device. Then when you get in the car your journey instructions are there waiting for you.

Both of your responses appear to relate to entering the destination directly into or from the sat nav itself……that is not the issue.

The ‘My Drive’ software does not appear to (A) correctly recognise UK post codes or (B) appear to allow me to select from my imported POI lists.

So in my mind this makes it almost useless……A++ for idea…..D- for result!

Once again I ask – TomTom what are you doing to correct this situation or am I missing something? Please advise.

    Hi
    Yes I agree
I think the MyDrive Web (v1) Route planner search engine was near as dammit perfect
The MyDrive Web (v2) route search engine planner is now virtually useless when trying to plan a route

    Hi Daniel Fornies Soria,

Many thanks for the feedback but I'm sorry it does sound a bit like 'a pat on the head' from TomTom. (Now run along and play children). I've had a quick search back through the TomTom forum and there are several similar threads that have been raised.

These issues have obviously been known about for quite some time (at least 3-4 months minimum) seemingly since the last software release. Does TomTom not test its software before pushing it out onto its customers?

Even the most simplest of beta tests should have shown up the issues - I spotted them the 1st time I tried using 'My Drive'.

TomTom - a few words of advice from someone who has worked in the electronics design industry for over 30 years - don't release software or products before they are fully ready and tested IN THE REAL WORLD, and don't treat your customers like idiots who will put up with anything!

I agree, it is useless, never the address or business you want and not even the correct street.

Here is a few examples that don't return anything like the correct location, I'm not sure I've had any proper matches in the few weeks I have been using it - why can't it just reference Google?:
    1.
Milton Manchester Hotel Sentinel House Block B Peel Street, Salford, Eccles Salford, M30 0NA - MyDrive offers nothing lfor the postcode or hotel name, it won't find the right street and postcode.

2.Capita Travel And Event, 5th Floor Regent House, Heaton Lane, Stockport, Greater Mancheste, SK4 1BS

    3. Towergate Business Centre, 7, Coopers Pl, Wormley GU8 5SZ

It does seem bizarre, as it means the latest MyDrive doesn't do the job it is supposed to be doing. Not so much a bug as a failure so serious it surely ought to have been reverted to the previous release until the problems were sorted out offline?

Now you've just updated the android app and it's doing it now!!! The website has been doing it for ages and you now break the phone app...

Same issue. Stick a postcode in and you just get a list of nearby businesses. If there's no business using that postcode...tough...you can't go there.

How can you "be aware of an issue" and then make it happen on other devices too??!!??

CT4 6NG - Tried that in Mapcode. Interestingly there were no roads shown, just a blank map, until you zoomed out. Very rural!

It seemed to be off the tracks somewhere near both Wingmore and North Eltham, between Canterbury and Folkestone. However, in satellite view it was centered on what looked like a farmhouse at the end of a long track at mapcode TZH.LBV

ME13 9QS - Another large house, or clubhouse off Newhouse Lane between Sheldwich and Selling. Mapcode SWH.ZNV

As the latest Mydrive doesn't do mapcodes (apparently) you could until fixed (!) possibly try using the Mapcode map to search on the postcode, address etc. and then copy and paste the GPS coordinates from Mapcode into MyDrive to send to your on air TomTom.

Now the app is useless you have to know the address which is not always possible.
This is touted as an improvement in the latest app update but it in fact refers it virtually useless.
    This must be fixed ASAP.

Someone else has posted a 1 star review on the latest version of the Android app saying exactly what we're saying here and they've replied to him acting mystified and asking him to call their help line.

    Is TomTom THAT incompetent???
It's not even a bug...a bug is something that happens in unusual circumstances or just or certain hardware/software combinations. This is something that anyone will see immediately...you type in a postcode...you just get POIs...and if you're lucky a POI will share the same postcode as where you want to go. Otherwise you have to know the actual street name e.g. if you type acacia avenue, ab32 then it'll give you the address and full postcode, but if you only know the postcode you're stuffed.

Mine did this at about 15:00 today, before that it was ok, very frustrating now as having to use waze, if not sorted will have to ditch tom tom and go garmin, as a service enginneer i rely on it all the time.
I tried re-installing my drive, even trying to find an earlier version but no success.
If this dont change back i will end up selling my 6000 and getting another make.

    Best Regards,
    The MyDrive Team.

The TomTom MyDrive team have now managed to make not only the web portal but also the app virtually unusable for the key purposes they were designed for.

You have gone ahead and launched an update to the app knowing full well your current approach was flawed and doesn't work correctly - something you have been aware of for at least the last 3-4 months.

This takes an almost unbelievable level of either incompetence or arrogance – at the moment I’m not quite sure which.

As customers of TomTom we are all owed a full and honest response giving a realistic time frame as to when we can expect these issues to be resolved – days, weeks, months, the end of 2018, longer?

To simply say in short ‘when we can get round to it’ is just not acceptable.

Please feel free to pass these comments on to your senior management so they are fully aware of how utterly annoyed your customers are becoming.
