Mapshare reporter doesn't seem to be monitored

1. I posted map corrections on Mapshare reporter several months ago but they remain "pending". The errors were in regard to incorrectly indicated "no right turns", an incorrect one-way setting and a speed limit. All were genuine, permanent corrections - not temporary variations - but no-one seems to have even looked at them let alone put them on a map.

2. I tried entering the corrections on my GO5200 as well but nothing's happened. This is such a far cry from my old XL IQ which showed corrections immediately. Is there any point in putting things in?

Sometimes it is a hit and miss. The other day I reported an error, the next day it was accepted. Then within a week, reported a few more errors in the same country, all pending yet. You can post the report IDs here and one of the TT staff member can investigate.

Corrections made on the new devices are not used by the device locally, but being sent to TT to correct them.

Four map errors still pending are:
6 Apr 2017 11:37 0bcc0181-e7a3-4585-a003-3bdef946f70c Right turn is allowed
6 Apr 2017 11:33 d6420fb7-28bc-4ffb-ae6d-f26868cc77b4 Right turn is allowed
6 Apr 2017 11:16 c5b997c3-ba97-44fe-b02c-7791fcae55a2 Incorrect one-way shown - this bit of the road is two way
6 Apr 2017 11:14 0b23ab20-c5f1-4908-97f2-4a60de0f7a5f Speed limit 40mph on this road

On 29th April, I did also report a road shown as blocked which was in fact open (c7f29583-0135-4fa5-85e6-f9b78e22792c). That was subsequently corrected but seems to have been un-corrected again. Also an adjacent road shown as open which was in fact closed (102daad9-9762-46ab-9564-a8ae9b5f82b2). The roads and the map have, however, since changed. The map is still still wrong but it seemed to be a waste of time reporting it. Note that the MSR map and the route planning map are also different!

I am aware now that the mapping system has changed so that you can't see changes straight away. This was a huge disappointment with the GO5200 as I had seen the old Mapshare system as a key feature of the TomTom which wasn't available with other products. If I'd known that it wasn't going to work as it used to (or even work at all), I wouldn't have bought the GO5200. I may as well have saved my money and bought a much cheaper satnav from another company.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reports! Our Maps Specialist Robbie is back soon and can hopefully provide more information about them.

I've forwarded the temporary closure report you mentioned to the Traffic team.

Cheers, Mikko

Hi John,

The Traffic team got back to me about the temporary closure: The MyDrive map is indeed not yet correct at Lodge Lane Interchange, Hallwood Park, but the closure is in place so that routing will be correct at the location.

Cheers, Mikko

Thanks, Mikko. The Lodge Lane Interchange works (along with all the other Mersey Gateway works) should be finished by Christmas. Maybe that is the time to sort all the maps out! The other four MapShare corrections that I put in are, however, "permanent" and independent of any road works currently in progress.

Hi John,

I'll forward this to our British maps expert to look into, but I will however say the following about your reports:

- In both the first reports, you reference google imagery as sources. We cannot utilize google imagery as a source.

- The third report does indeed seem to be a necessary change, and I'll inform our maps expert to look into it.

- The fourth report is regarding a speed restriction. Reports of this type currently takes longer than other types, and it is very had to say when this one will be closed. Expect a wait.

Kind Regards,
Robbie

Thanks, Robbie. I only mentioned Google Earth as supplementary information. The reports stand anyway so if you have a problem with Google Earth, just ignore the references to it.
This by now may seem like a footnote but to return to the original topic, it does seem to take a lot of effort to get anyone to deal with Mapshare reports. I appreciate that reports need to be checked but several months after the original reports and only after a deal of pestering, you are now saying you'll get your experts to look into them!
Regards
John Grogan

Hello again John_Grogan,

I'm happy to inform you that the first three reports have been closed and has lead to updates in our maps.
So thank you for helping us improve our maps :)

Keep in mind however that this will only reflect in our live maps at a later, yet undetermined time.

Kind Regards,
Robbie

Robbiebot,

Even though your mapping department is not allowed to use information derived from Google, you should still use information derived from user (user's report) that something is not right in this place and then you should follow it on your own (with other, acceptable sources).

You are still left with information that something is not right here. Yes, you can "ignore" the piece of evidence from Google, but you know that something is incorrect here and you should pursue it in other ways.

As far as I'm concerned, even though sometimes a report get "rejected" due to a source they can't use, they still look into with their own sources (local authorities, track records, etc.). I had a few cases where a report was rejected, yet corrected in a few map versions.

I had a report who was rejected:
TypeÉtatAdresseRefusé
Envoyé16 janv.

For those who don't know french language, it is a problem with the name of a roundabout which have a name on the map and an other on the reality!

Here are the screen copy of google street view:

99ef34f7-69f5-44b8-aea1-a2c300e19284.png19913cef-1c28-4639-83c2-32c3a9f5b013.png

Who decide to accept or reject a report? Is there a person who go at the place or at least look at google street view?

If you report as "other", it shall be checked by a human and might take considerably longer, but there is a good chance that it is accepted. If you use any other option, it might be automated and "computer says no".

yesterday use my new Start 52 in Spain on trip from Gibraltar to an hotel in a place called Lomas de Sancti Petri.
Problems encountered:
1. Hotel "Royal Hideaway" not recognised so had to ask directions when near destination:
2. most 80km/h limits were marked as 90km/h on map.
3. Start 2 failed to recognise change in speed limits from 80 to 60.
sorry I cannot be more specific about point 2 but probably fair to say that 90km/h limits are very infrequent in the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga.
tom tom could consider including at least a rudimentary manual with each Start 52 as I found it quite different to the Start 25 I used to have.

Unfortunately the speed limits on the TT maps are pretty inaccurate :(

Hi @PSPS

Welcome to the community!
I see both the reports are for speed limit changes; I will forward these to the team.

Usually, incorporating speed limit changes take longer compared to other corrections submitted via MapShare reporter.

Thanks, Vikram
