Directions via Device Speaker instead of Bluetooth

ChaaseChaase Posts: 1 [New Traveler]
I raised this issue a couple of years ago and I see there are other threads about this same issue. TomTom are you listening to your users?

I stream a lot of Podcast content from my phone whilst driving which is fine but when I listen to the radio I do not get notifications.

I have seen the workarounds but these are a pain having to continually change setting depending what I am listening too.

I have just started using Waze (free app) and even it has the feature.

Surely it's not rocket science to enable this feature!

It would be good practice, if TomTom ONCE AND FOR ALL could give proper feed back on this request!

(but I'll bet it will be in my dreams)

If would be good practice if TomTom started listening to their customers, like 'Chaase' and may others, I have to go through the same rigmarole when charging input, surely this oft requested feature is not beyond TomTom's capabilities, is it?

Clearly it's something that either they do not wish to do or they are unable to do, and I doubt it matters much to us which it is.

    Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback regarding this!

As mentioned here, this has been requested before. We log all customer feedback and report to the product teams. Unfortunately, at this point I don't have further information as to when/whether this feature will come available.

    Cheers, Mikko

tired using the SoundAbout app but it doesn't allow me to choose output destination on a per app basis. I've emailed the developer but has not responded. If this works, it will solve this issue.

Looks like I misspoke. You can change the destination on a category basis such as phone and media. Haven't visited it for awhile.

Try the new version 1.17. I'm able to get voice through my phone speaker and steam music via BT!
  • 954dk954dk Posts: 292 [Master Traveler]
    Thats a NO for me.
It's not functioning on my SGS6 Edge. No matter what I select, the BT media channel is used. AND its inaudible...

I solved the problem by getting a new phone. Then connected the old one via hotspot, and disconnecting it from the car radio. My old phone is now a sat nav, I've got Google maps, sygic, co-pilot, Tom Tom, Waze and here. They all have their own plusses and minuses however because there is no sim card it's very fast and always plays via its own speaker. If the signal drops off then you lose the traffic data but the guidance still works

You've really done it now, any future problems and we'll all be advised to get a new (old) phone :8

Just go to voices in settings and at the bottom is a section called audio output channel, open that and select alarm, bingo phone speaker works
  • 954dk954dk Posts: 292 [Master Traveler]
Nope. If the "Alarm" channel is selected on my SGS 6 Edge, i get a lout outout via loudspeaker and a low output in the car speakers and NO music...

The only way to solve the issue is to select either "Bluetooth" or "Phone speaker" as output as I suggested before. The complexity between software and hardware versions, phone- and car gear etc. is way too big to both test and handle for Tomtom.

Well it works for me. I have a Huawei p10 and when I connect the blue tooth to my car, ford focus with sync radio it automatically cuts off the phone speaker regardless of the app settings.

Yes! That's exactly why I wrote, that Tomtoms solution is way to complicated and useless because of the complexity between devices and phones.

I tried all options today and this is how the sound is directed on my SGS6 Edge, Anroid 7. As you see, i cannot get the sound on the phone unless I deselect media use on my connection. Then I'll not be able to play music via Bluetooth.

Sound output selected wil be outputted as follows:
    Music channel: Car
    Voice channel: Car
    System channel: Car + phone
    Notification channel: Car + phone
    Alarm channel: Car + phone
    Ring channel: Car + phone
