TomTom Sports Connect Battery Charging Status No Longer Accurate

Since the latest (or one before, I don't recall) Sports Connect update, the battery charge indicator isn't accurate. I seemed to recall it matching what the watch indicator read. After charging my Multi-Sport all night, the software shows almost no charge, while the watch readout shows fully charged (which is correct). The attached two photos were taken moments apart. No question as it doesn't affect any function, just a FYI.

Hi thinkstopthink,
Welcome to the Community & Sorry about the delay in response!
Thank you for your feedback regarding the battery charge indicator on Sports Connect! I'll pass it to the product team as an improvement request.
Cheers,

Hi,
Thanks for the post. I think it's probably more of a bug than an improvement request. It used to work fine...0 -

Hi Stuart,
It's not even close as you can see from the pictures. The circular yellow "progress bar" maybe registers 5% charged while the watch display shows, say, 95%, or as in the case above 100%.
>the only part which is guaranteed to be accurate is whether it is charging or charged
Ah, I see. Maybe TomTom might think about simply showing it in either the "charging" or "charged" state instead of showing the circular progress bar at what appears to be a wildly incorrect amount. As from the photos above, you can see that it appears that the watch is charged, but the software is very far from showing that. In that photo, the watch had been charging overnight, so I'm pretty sure the watch was charged 100%.
If it's not a bug, then I guess it is more of a bad implementation if it is a "best guess"? As I said above a software state that expresses "Charging" or "Charged" in a graphical manner might make more sense.
It only took me a couple times of seeing the software (and then checking the watch) after the device had been charging all night to realize the software display was wildly off.
Like I said, just a FYI. I use the device the same no matter.0 -
Hi Stuart,
So, the watch has been charging for about 22 hours—and is most likely charged fully. The watch display shows charged fully. Then I load Sports Connect and you can see from the screengrab I took a minute ago, it is not even close.
Again, just FYI. I'm off to run sprints...0 -

Since the bar is basically at zero, I think the animation has simply broken. If you disconnect and reconnect, or re-start Sports Connect (use the sys tray icon to exit it), does it always show the same tiny bar?

Hi Stuart,
I just walked in after my sprints. I used the watch for timing my intervals. So, the watch should be charged less than when I left thirty minutes ago. I just plugged it in and you can see the animation. It is now showing what I guess to be a far more accurate accounting of the battery status.
It seems intermittent. On several occasions, I've quit (on a Mac, so Command-Q) the software and restarted it and it still registers at that very low point as I posted above.
So, TOMTOM_3.jpg (above post) was when I started the software this morning to update the QuickGPS, TOMTOM_4.jpg was when I got back from my sprints 30 minutes later, and TOMTOM_5.jpg is after the time it took me to write this post. Quiting/restarting the software each time.
Oh, and when I first looked at the watch this morning, the main display showed the battery as full, as I would have expected. Now it is animated showing charging.0 -

Hi Stuart,
No, if you look above you will see that it is a recurring bug. I could post a daily screengrab that shows the various inconsistent charge animations the software shows, but that wouldn't be a good use of our time. Would you recommend I remove/reinstall Sports Connect?
To be frank, I'm only reporting it since I thought it would be an easy bug fix. It doesn't alter the functioning of my TomTom, so it doesn't affect my daily use of the device.0 -

I know you say you're not bothered by it, but If you want I can check what the watch is actually reporting. That requires enabling more detailed logging.
Edit the file C:\Users\[yourUser]\AppData\Local\TomTom\MySportsConnect\prefs.ini
0. Exit Sports Connect (using the system tray icon)
1. Press the Windows+E key to open the explorer
2. Type %APPDATA% in the address bar at the top. This should show the files in 'C:\Users\[yourUser]\AppData\Roaming'
3. Click on 'AppData' in the address bar to move up one directory. You should now see the files in 'C:\Users\[yourUser]\AppData'
4. Double-click on 'Local' to move into that directory.
5. Double-click on 'TomTom' to move into that directory.
6. Double-click on 'MySportsConnect'. You should now see the prefs file in the list of files.
7. Right click the 'prefs' file and select edit
8. Below the line [Environment] add the line
LogLevel=65535
9. Save the file and re-start Sports Connect.
Next time the bug occurs send the logs and I'll see if it sheds any more light on the issue. You can then delete the LogLevel line from the prefs file.

~/Library/Application Support/TomTom/MySportsConnect
1. Start Finder
2. Click on Go->Go to folder...
3. Paste the above path into the text box and click the Go button
4. The MySportsConnect folder with the prefs.ini file should be displayed.
