    Hi Chris

Thank you for answering that one.

    Millerart

What do you get if you tap the Lanybydder at the top of the list when it asks for the Street name. Does it take you to the map with the marker on the B4338 as shown on the other pictures. If not then this is an issue we would not want to see repeated on the other units.

It seems for Post Codes without a Street Name the device still demands a street name be selected but if there isn't one to select then the device can't proceed.
In other words: This device is unusable in Great Britain.

Thanks everyone, my final answer from the team seems to be NO, you cannot search postcode only if there isn't a street name. Pity this wasn't highlighted in the spec BEFORE I bought the SatNav.......

"David, we have checked all the details for you and unfortunately for the Start 52, an address cannot be searched using only a postcode. It is necessary that you enter an address so that the device will give you suggestions. There are some other devices that give you the suggestions when a postcode is entered like GO 50, GO 51, GO 60, GO 61.

From my end, I will be forwarding this as a feedback to our product management team so that it can be noted down and an update is made available in the near future."

Hi Douglap, no it will just take you to the centre of Llanybydder, not your chosen destination.

Thanks Chris, is there a possibility this could be fixed with an update? Otherwise it makes the SatNav pretty useless in most UK rural areas.

We are currently looking into it, hopefully we can fix this in a future software update.

We have just bought a Start 52 as well, in fact we returned the first one as we thought it had a technical glitch, but the second one has exactly the same fault as the first, always asking for street name when you input the post code and as we live in rural Somerset, many post codes don't have actual street names attached. On a recent trip to Wales for a friends' wedding we were left high and dry as the sat nav refused to accept the post code of either the Reception afterwards or our friends house where we were staying the night. It was a complete disaster and Tom Tom should withdraw this model from the market. Rant over.

Happened to me today put in postcode for a remote campsite in Scotland and it would not show anything, lucky I had my old go live 820 with me and once I entered post code it took me straight to camp site,I have just bought the smart 52, and I'm not happy, think they should re name it not very smart 52, waste of money,

I had a problem navigating using postcodes too. I don't live in a rural area but wanted to navigate to a National Trust site. The site's website said the postcode for satnavs was HP4 1LT (my previous Tomtom had no problem with this). The Start 52 now insists on a road before it can take me to this destination, making the device effectively unusable to anyone wanting to go to rural areas.

I do understand that workarounds exist -- one can use the POI database (this National Trust site is actually present there), but one should not have to rely on the presence of a place on the POI database to travel there. The other workaround (latitude/longitude) is ridiculous -- postcode-based navigation worked on previous Tomtoms, and now it doesn't. This is a regression, fix it please.

Can anyone from Tomtom advise if you see this being fixed? I'd like to return this device otherwise.

Not what you want but a possible (alternative) way around the problem for now? Use Mapcodes. Go here enter the postcode in the box. It says you can enter an "address" and as with TomTom this can mean just the postcode(sic).

When it locates look at the blue box in the top right hand corner of the map. The postcode HP4 1LT gives the UK Mapcode: GBR F4K.X9X Put this Mapcode (F4K.X9X) directly into your UK TomTom at the Address search prompt, hopefully it should take you right there.

My Start 25 gives Mapcode F4K.XKN for postcode HP4 1LT, which looks more accurate for the actual road junction, but there is not a great difference.

There problem with new Navcore v.17
SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> CHOOSE A SEARCH MODE
for some UK postcodes QUICK SEARCH and STEP BY STEP SEARCH show different results.
Hope new navcore sort these problems.

I was just about to buy the Start 52 for my partner's use. Do TomTom monitor this thread? If so can you advise if this problem is fixed please (I note there have been several new releases recently for my Go 6000 and Start 20). Thanks

    Hi Cussy,

    Welcome to the Community!

This issue is still under investigation. We're working hard to find a solution as soon as possible.

Please note, that this issue only affects post codes that are not associated with a street name, mostly in rural areas.

    Cheers, Mikko

I have also experienced this problem. Today I needed to meet someone at a service station. The BP garage has been there for decades and the postcode is DL17 8RU. The TomTom can't find it even when I tell it the road is the A167. If you'd like to check the location key the post-code into GoogleMaps, your iPhone, your computer, your old and ancient TomTom; in fact program the post-code into anything except the newTomTom navigation device and you stand a very good chance of finding it.

Luckily I still have my ancient TomTom which I dug out, keyed in the post-code and set off.

Buying a new TomTom is not recommended until this issue is fixed.

It's only a problem for START devices.

Is it? I just tried the post code on my Start 25 (NAV 3) and got the same location as in your post. Also, same location in Mapcode

Or do you mean newer (NAV 4) Start models?

@Rextter... I see in your post you have used a space in the Postcode, you don't input a space entering Postcode on Tomtom devices

    @CatNip... My NAV4 Start 60 is fine...

Hi Mikkok, do you have a date for this fix please? Otherwise I need to return my new Start 52 ASAP - completely useless in this part of the UK with this problem.

You really should flag this up when you sell the product, very dishonest not to do so.

Thanks Niall - I did, but they replied that postcodes work. Which clearly they don't!

    Hi montythedog

I think there was some confusion in understanding the issue you reported to the customer service. Sorry about that.

I have sent them a heads up about this, so someone will be getting in touch with you with more information.

    Regards
    Vikram
