Scooter navigation has arrived to combine stunning and smart

Today TomTom has announced a brand new navigation solution for scooters.

The VIO is a device that you mount on your scooter, and an app for your smartphone. You can only use the device and app together - they won't work separately. You use the app to plan a route, and the route is shown on the device. Live route and traffic information is streamed from your app to the device installed on your scooter. You see route instructions on the device, and you hear turn-by-turn directions through your Bluetooth headset.
There will be an iOS & an Android version which are based on the GO Mobile apps (similar menu structure & options).
You can choose between 7 different silicon covers to match the style of their scooter:

The VIO is designed to work best on a scooter with an engine capacity above 125cc.

Any reason this won't work / be suitable on a motorcycle?
What's the pricing on the app or yearly use? When will the App be available in the Finnish iTunes store?
Does the app work through phone storage like the Go app does, meaning that data streaming isn't necessary?
This looks like great value as the waterproof holder and handlebar mount I was going to buy for my smartphone would cost almost as much! This would allow me to keep my phone safe, and to use a dedicated device instead!0 -

I use the app for two months already with a device mounted at my big BMW GS and it works great (some photos with descriptions in Russian can be found at http://bikepost.ru/blog/67409/TomTom-Vio-prezentatsija-i-obzor-novogo-gorodskogo-motonavigatora.html). The device itself costs 170 EUR and to my understanding you won't have to pay anything extra for maps and services after paying for the device. The app is already released to the Dutch app store so you can check if it's present in Finnish one. You don't need to use internet connection for navigation, but will need it to get traffic feed and speed cameras, the data usage is very low (expect around several MB per month).0 -
Will this product be released in the US?0

Thank you!
Still not in Finnish App store, and TomTom doesn't include it in the countries listed for release yet. AFAIK I can just buy the VIO in Germany and get the app from the German store for my iPhone so I can use it on my trip around Europe, then after my trip when it's available I'll just get the app from the Finnish store.0 -
Extremely important for me to know if I can get a full refund if it doesn't work?
I'm quite happy with TT car navigation. I tested Go Mobile for walking and bicycle. Sorry to say, but there are no words how extremely bad Go Mobile is. 30 year old paths missing. When plotting a walking/bicycle route it tries to send me over motorways. When the map shows many old bicycle paths in an area it isn't even aware they exist. When I enter them anyway it keeps trying to get me on the highways. Not via road. No it wants me to climb over buildings and swim over rivers.....0 -

Please be aware that Vio companion app is built on top of Go Mobile app and if you're not happy with its navigation capabilities and maps coverage, you'll likely see the same problems in Vio app.0 -
I'm thinking about buying it, but I'm not sure if the app will work if I keep my mobile phone inside the motorbike trunk. Do you think it will still send the signals to the device properly?0

Looks cool. Apart from power supply issues, it could be even a good idea for normal bicycles (maybe a solar power add-on?).0

Cool device!
Really smart idea.
I've just realized that all what I need is cheap, waterproof display connected with mobile phone.
Does it harm the sound quality as the Rider 400 devices?
Is the USB port waterproof when charging on the move?
How works the call notofications? I mean if user has to wait 15 minutes for sync as in Rider 400 (every time!) or this function will be available in the future.
The map coverage is the same as in Rider devices?0 -

I loved this product. When will it be on sale in Turkey? I checked from google play market (Tomtom VIO app) and it say "this item can not be using at your area"... I know it is new but it is what I need :0

USB port is not waterproof when charging.
For call notifications, you need to configure Bluetooth Low Energy connection once for iOS, for Android (if I'm not mistaken here) the notifications will come via the same BT channel that is used for regular Vio operation. After the initial configuration is done, everything should connect and work automagically.
I think that map coverage in the included regions is the same as one available with the Rider, but with a Rider you have access to more maps, e.g.
the Americas are not available for Vio yet.0 -
Again, is there a plan to sell this in the US? If not, will the UK version work here with the app?0

Thanks. I don't know if there is a way to send this message to TomTom but I know a lot of people here in the US are excited about this product. Scooter riders are spread out across our country but they are passionate about their rides.0

Being an engineer, I have absolutely no idea about what TomTom sales strategy is, but I think that everyone here in Amsterdam understands the importance of the American market.

i find it big shame that you wont support windows phone 10, I know its market share is small, but how is it meant to grow if developers just ignore it, surely if would benefit tomtom to create a universal app that works on windows 10/mobile0

I understand your frustration. I am upset they haven't done the US release yet but the reality is that Windows Mobile 10 is only 14% of the whole Windows Mobile market.
"Taking a look at the numbers, things don’t look great for Microsoft. The overall Windows Phone market is at 0.7 percent worldwide, and Windows 10 Mobile is an even smaller percentage of that."
You can't blame TomTom for not spending valuable resources on a what amounts to less than 1% of 1% of the global smartphone market. I own a Microsoft Surface and LOVE it and would love to see it supported as well. However, the Windows Mobile market is just too small to justify any development.0 -
surely tomtom could just port the ios app to windows 10 with little coding https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bridges0

I also wish to know this! I bought the device, and it's useless at the moment0 -
Hi bajopants,
Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately, I have no information about plans for releasing VIO in Australia. However, I'll announce any releases in new regions here on the forum so stay tuned
Meanwhile, you can find the list of available maps for VIO and their sizes at
