I am also deeply dissapointed in my TomTom Go 5100 when it comes to Live Traffic services.

There was absolutely no reference on or in the packaging that Live Traffic was restricted to South Africa only. To the contrary, the availability of free roaming and unlimited data was prominently splashed over the main webpage and packaging.

The promotion on the local (I live, and bought the device, in South Africa) TomTom webpage (https://www.tomtom.com/en_za/drive/car/products/go-5100-europe/) clearly stated:
    "SIM & DATA Included
Receive TomTom Traffic information across Europe with unlimited data and roaming at no extra cost."

    On the box it states:
"SIM and Data Included*: Drive with TomTom Traffic, straight out of the
box. SIM and Data Included devices offer unlimited data and roaming at no
    extra cost.
*Subject to availability of telecom network connectivity, check tomtom.com/
    connect for more information."

The only reference I could find, once it was pointed out to, me was on a subpage (See all specs) from the webpage where it states:
    "Detailed Traffic Coverage
    South Africa"
This is ambiguous, as it does not state that it is limited to South Afica, just that it has detailed traffic information.

When touring in the Netherlands, I did not have Live Traffic; BUT the SIM was connected to GPRS and I am sure that data was being relayed to the server; but I could not benefit. Why?

I consider this fraudulent advertising and I have no doubt that any consumer protection agency would agree.

I can only repeat, luckily I bought the device at Amazon and they refunded the full price.
I recommend to check your local consumer protection laws or talk with a consumer protection agency.
With regard to the impressive speed of changes (Although changes I did via the mapeditor have been accepted, they were still not present in the device after three years when I leave this area again), the virtually non-existing support or their standard answers (wrong UI behaviour on reporting of speed limits: reset the device) this return was the best solution.
I meanwhile found Waze, an app with an active mapping community which is free and work in the US and in Europe.

    Hi nieuwfam,

    Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for pointing out the text on the web page. That seems to be copied from the EU pages and doesn't apply to South Africa like that. I'll report this to the web team.

    Cheers, Mikko

Thank you for the reply. I purposely bought the 5100 model for the Live Traffic availability in South Africa AND Europe, as advertised.
I do not understand why TomTom do not automatically provide the service in countries that have compatible services. As mentioned, the SIM was active and connected in the Netherlands (confirmed on the device). TomTom was undoubtedly using the position information from the device, but I could not benefit. I can see no commercial reason for this as there is no facility to purchase the service for SIM connected devices.
False / fraudulent promotions of this nature are counterproductive and will simply assure that future purchases will not be from TomTom.

    Hi aliyes,

    Welcome to the Community!

The Start devices don't support TomTom Traffic. However, you can get TMC traffic information with a TMC Receiver.

When will Live Traffic expand to Estonia?
  • Rolf RRolf R Posts: 1 [Apprentice Traveler]
    Hello,

how is the restriction for smartphone apps as these could login in the countries?

We have an iPhone and Android smartphone with the GO App and we are from Europe.
Can we get TT Traffic in USA?

    Kind regards
    Rolf

I asked two months ago - When will Live Traffic expand to Estonia, Latvia, Lituhania? Would be nice to know, because I am not going to buy new TomTom before I have my answer. :)

    Thanks!

    Hi st098,

    Welcome to the Community!

We're constantly working on expanding the coverage of TomTom Traffic and just recently announced it covering 5 billion people in 68 countries. You can view the total coverage with MyDrive, MyDrive apps and the GO Mobile apps. The service availability for navigation devices depends on the region of purchase and can be seen at tomtom.com/coverage.

We don't, in general, comment on future releases, but I announce all significant releases here on the forum so stay tuned :D

    Cheers, Mikko

What is going on with the Live Services subscription renewal? It used to be an easy thing to use MyDrive Connect to pay for a new subscription every year but then the option to renew Live Services disappeared. When I ring Customer Support they tell me that there's a technical issue with MyDrive Connect and they give me a free 3 months of Live Services. I've done this three times so far, so that means this "technical issue" has been ongoing for about a year! That's ridiculous! It's very inconvenient as 3 months comes around very quickly and then Live Services disappears off my TomTom usually when I need it most! If the technical issue is too hard to fix then can't I just pay for 12 months over the phone?

    @brycii

Your problem with short renewal periods could be because Tom2 and Vodafone are still dithering as to the explanation of, with what, and when, SIM enabled devices are going to continue the reception of "Traffic" information in a timely manner, before/after Vodafone switch off the 2G network

    Your information is totally wrong.
In MyDrive and Go mobile I can not see any Tomtom traffic messages in the new countries mentioned in the press release last June:
    https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://corporate.tomtom.com/releasedetail.cfm?releaseid=1030689&ved=2ahUKEwjVxdOA0uLZAhWR-aQKHXJiDdUQFjAAegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw1WaV93a-KewrIHRdmJSfyC
Even in Slovenia traffic still doesn't work in the Go mobile app!!!
In the Sygic app Tomtom traffic works in all 64 countries since July 2017, tested in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
@Tomtom's management: When you gonna wake up and give full coverage of tomtom traffic to all customers of Tomtom's own products???

    WAKE UP!!!
There is still no Tomtom traffic available in the whole EU.
The press release of the added countries is one year old already.
Sygic has got working TT traffic info in 64 countries since July 2017.
It is extremely embarrassing, that Tomtom's customers doesn't get full coverrage compared to customers of competitors.

This is unbelievably annoying. I just bought a tomtom go520 from Heathrow when heading to the UAE as the box very clearly says lifetime world maps, traffic etc. I spoke to the salesman and he assured me that all services would work in the Gulf. There is no mention on the box that the traffic services will only work in Europe. I can see the traffic status in the UAE on my iphone "tomtom mydrive" app, but it doesn't show on the satnav. No way would I have bought this device if I knew that the traffic status does not work on the satnav when outside europe. This is grossly misleading on the part of tomtom.

They aren't very honest about it and even when you look at their current website it is not mentioned under the specs of the device

Ahh yeah...buried in "All Specs". Yeah that's super easy to find lol......

And if you are in a shop, and not online with time to browse through 300 pages on the tomtom website looking for this info (and it is buried very deep indeed), it is even less easy to find. The box is frankly completely misleading - and I would say designed deliberately to mislead customers. There is absolutely no indication that the traffic services are not available in all countries - not even a little asterisk indicating that there might be some special terms and conditions. It makes it reasonably clear how much of the world is covered for maps, but there is no mention whatsoever that these maps might not include traffic. Frankly I think this is outright misleading, and I am tempted to raise this issue with consumer affairs in the UK (where the item was bought).
What makes it particularly annoying is that tomtom do have perfectly decent traffic data for the UAE available on the mydrive app - I can see exactly where the traffic jams are. But tomtom cannot be bothered to send that data to the satnav where it might actually be of use.

They are 100% misleading people and they have been doing it for a long time. Never seen them answer why the phone app has worldwide traffic but the devices do not.

Burying the traffic information under "All Specs" is shameful. Nowhere does it indicate you should look there for traffic information.

Thanks for the info. I have just recently fallen into this trap as well after emigrating from the UK to Oz. It is a bit poor that my expensive GO5200 is now as useful as a Start version. Brisbane can get bad traffic at rush hours so traffic would have been very welcome. But I do enjoy tossing money into a fire and sitting in traffic (sarcasm). Well anyway keep up the good work tomtom, you won't be getting any more of my money.

    Hi @swconnell

Have you tried contacting Customer Support to see if they will change your settings as was suggested by @Glockers in
