Start 55TM Home Issue

Hi. I purchased a TomTom Start 55TM last night from Walmart. I would like to update the maps before I leave on my vacation however it says the software is not compatible with the START Series and it doesn't reconize the device when I plug it in.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice following the instructions from the support section and its still not working.

How can I update it and have my computer reconize it?
