It's incredibly frustrating. Same/very similar thing happened when navcore 9 first came out - all x40 devices threw up 1008 errors. Eventually - I think it took nearly 2 weeks - TT fixed it.

Thing that bugs me mostly is that I've just restored my device back to 9.058 with a back-up from about 6 weeks ago and there is now no way to deselect the so called upgrade to 9.400 in Home. That means I have the stark choice of either 'upgrading' to 9.400 and losing my Live services or staying at 9.058 and living with safety cameras, fuel prices, gps fix and mapshares all remaining out of date.

Not a happy camper.

I've just updated my Go 540 Live and am experiencing the same issue. As I use my TOMTOM regularly around London the traffic information is critical. Very unsatisfactory and shows evidence of a lack of regression testing of updates

I am furious that Tom Tom does this again. I have a big trip for tomorrow and I can't use my Services now. Thanks TomTom.

There is no need to have such a problem again is it ? Why don't test it on several units inhouse before releasing it public ?

Everytime there are updates there is something that is not functioning. I really feel they don't test it on a device universally to see if it throws a fit.

I mean I was a programmer myself and we could not bring out anything until it is was a Manufacturing release. No such things as Alpha, Beta, and other RC1,2,3, etc.

Microsoft does that as well and it is never finished, you always need Service Pack 1, 2,3, 4, 5, 6 and 6a for example in the time of Windows NT. When it finally was finished they came with Windows 2000 Professional that saw own 2 years time of daylight and then we got Windows XP that took also 3 Service Packs to get it right. Now they can't burn that XP not from the face of the earth because everyone became content with it. Not even to tell about Vista after that was a trip to Hardware change heaven. Now Windows 7 is there and it works nicely with SP 1, they have to have Windows 8.

I am not waiting for that, everytime with all those updates there is something. How can a company like Tom Tom even think for one second this is acceptable. I mean come on guys, you are a state of the art company. Get cracking and fix it as fast as you can.

TOM TOM N.V.

I've been phoning too and raised 'questions' - no sensible responce yet, but hopefully the dev's ears are buzzing!

Would love to get in on the beta program (is there still one) and be able to give them useful debug. Would love to enable debug on the device itself and get useful data out of the apps save on flash - would make the reboot loops and errors so much more tollerable if like all the other unix boxes I build and admin for a living I could just read the logs. (Of course it would be nice to have source to the proprietary bits to tweak the heck out of them too... but that might be a pipe dream too far!)

I've just emailed customer services about this and included a link to this thread.

I only joined the forum because this is the second time I've had an update partially disable my device and I'm a bit sick of it now considering the cost of the Live services.

I don't know if anyone has tried yet but when I dock my Go 740 with Tomtom Home (2.8.3.1343) on my Mac then operate the Go 740 through the computer using 'Operate my device' the Live services work perfectly on my computer screen, I can check traffic, weather and the rest!

However when I disconnect the Go 740 from the computer and then try and check any of the Live services on the Go 740 I get the sim 1008 error again.

I spoke to TT CS and told them that I had access to Traffic/Live services when using the emulator on the PC and they said that its a SIM/Software issue, the reason the unit works attached to a PC is because it isn't accessing the Live services using the SIM card its using the internet.

Why oh why don't TT test these updates properly before releasing them?

Why dont TomTom have a two tiered release?

1) Announce in the forums that there is a new version that you can manually download from http://xxxx and manually put in directory %APPDATA%\Local\Tomtom\... and install manually at your own risk. Let the brave and foolhardy test it for a week or two - there are loads of us - some of us even have a clue and might be able to really help. Everyone else wont know.. or bother so there is no risk of collateral damge and very bad PR.

2) A couple of weeks later push it out through Home to everyone - with much greater confidence that it's not going to break my mums only chance of getting somewhere... on time and without getting lost, cost TomTom a lot of good will and generate a twitter storm of bad PR.

Seriously - open beta works for the Open source world, it works for lots of commercial entities too. Why is it not so obvious that TT do it?

No Sim Errors, and HD Traffic appears to be working OK (although I've only used it for one short commute so far).

[I've got other problems with my 550, but I've got a seperate Ticket raised about that - not related to the 9.400 navccore].

It's the same old crap from tomtom , we had no complaints about 1008 code, they told me that on the last navcore update, I spent about an hour on the phone to tomtom cs last time and there is no way I'm doing that again ,to add insult to injury they want you to ring a 0845 number ,(i think they have had enough money out of us all) , I have put mine back to the original software it was shipped with.

I updated my GO 949 Live last night and also have the repeat experience of the dreaded Error Code 1008. How on earth can a company of the status of TomTom repeat this disaster ? Are they unable to test their products except on the paying public ? Why pay for a service that is not delivered.
Is there any way to roll back to the earlier version ? I noticed that it was not possible to uncheck the update in TT Home – makes any future options difficult.
Please get it sorted (and quicker than last time)
you can roll it back , but you cant update any services , not until they let you uncheck the software update on tomtom home. but like you say bantam (WE ARE PAYING FOR A SERVICE THEY CANT DELIVER)
