the handbook states:

About TomTom Map Share
TomTom Map Share helps you correct map errors and share map corrections with the rest
of the TomTom Map Share community.
To correct your map and share map corrections with other Map Share users, tap Map cor-
rections in the Services menu.
Map Share allows you to send and receive map corrections for one year after the new ver-
sion of a map is released.
This means that one year after the release date, you can still correct your own map but
you cannot send or receive map corrections until you upgrade your map to the latest ver-
sion.

so they state:
"Map Share allows you to send and receive map corrections for one year after the new ver-
sion of a map is released."

and yet this is totally untrue.

i bought a 1005 europe because tomtoms website says:

"Map Share technology"

but now i find that actually i cant share anyone elses map correction. Can this really be legal to state that headline when actually the only sharing is your corrections to other users?

Hi ohnotsureyet and welcome to the Map Quality board. Map Share technology in this case means you being able to make use of Map Share Reporter and also allowing this technology to withdraw from your unit, the trails on roads (and sometimes on new roads not yet in the map). This allows you as a User to share your data (with Tom Tom) which we in turn use to improve data in that particular mapset. It's not compulsory - purely voluntary.

yes but i think you missed the point entirely. For 99% of users map share is understood to mean YOU RECEIVE COMMUNITY MADE CORRECTIONS. 1000 series users do not get this facility. Clearly you meant it to work that way because the software includes the option to allow corrections from other users, but its not possible in reality. This feature is not enabled. Indeed the tomtom home says coming soon for map share. But the product description on your website does not say comming soon, it says MAP SHARE TECHNOLOGY. So clearly this is misleading. And why are we not getting it now?

Sorry - I don't know, so will have to rely on other much more experienced MSR/New Age GPSr users than I, to answer your question (did understand it by the way. Just needed to cover first base :smileywink:) Your question is also relevant (once we have the answer) to this topic since it could be transformed into one of those Suggestions for Improvement.

Hi,

you can do corrections on your device but not share them with the community nor receive community updates so far. This part of the MapShare option still has to be enabled on NAV3 devices. As far as I know the problem lies with distributing the relevant MapShare corrections to the different devices. Some users reported that it seems as if it is already possible to send MapShare corrections from NAV3 devices via the MyTT application to TomTom but I couldn't get that verified so far so I still assume that it doesn't work or doesn't work as wanted.

However as corrections being made via MapShare on your device don't seem to be worked off nearly as fast as via the MSR tool I recommend reporting every error via the online MSR tool as well. I usually only mark the errors when driving and correct them when I've got my computer started and can correct the same errors in MSR at the same time. And this although I've still got a NAV2 device with fully working MapShare functionality.

Also the data being received via MapShare isn't anything like updating your map. MapShare data being distributed only provides data being linked to already existing streets. Those changes are i.e. street names or speed limits. Other changes like new or removed roundabouts, new streets and such data isn't being sent with the MapShare data. That data you'll only get by purchasing a new map.

Map Share Reporter tool (hyperlink)

Regards

Lars.

Your device is going to use the changes you've done, but it won't be shared with the community. Same way, you won't receive others' changes yet. At the moment it is for you only, and for TT to implement in the new maps. It is also not going to happen anytime soon (6-12 months maybe). The online tool has no connection to your device either. You can't download or upload from or to the MSR.
