I should be grateful for advice as I cannot see anything on the TomTom website which helps me to understand the differences between the models.

We definitely want traffic info and Europe as well as the UK - we don't need bluetooth phone or ipod connectivity - how do we choose from amongst::

Go Live 820; Go Live 825; and Via Live 125 ?

Also, if we have a trip to the USA next year, can we buy the extra mapping on an SD card or by download with any of these models ?

We want to use the air vent mount which seems to limit a little the range of models

With many thanks indeed for your advice,

Michael

GO 820: http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/car-navigation/top-gear-edition/index.jsp#tab:specifications (has Bluetooth, but the UK model has only 2GB internal memory and UK map only)

GO825: http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/car-navigation/go-live-825-europe/#tab:specifications (has bigger screen than the 820, the storage is 4GB and has Europe maps)

VIA LIVE 125: http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/car-navigation/via-live-125-europe/#tab:specifications (similar to the 825...even the price)

All these can be extended with SD card, but go for the ones with 4GB internal storage and EU map. Later on you can buy US maps and another 4-8GB micro SD. Personally I would go for the 825. No specific reason...

If I was looking for a satnav right now, I would avoid anything from TomTom. My Via 120 has taught me a valuable lesson - TT product support is abysmal and the products themselves don't have half the functionality they are advertised with.

Well, you can argue pro and contra. TT's user interface is second to none, and try to do the same HD Traffic service with another brand... Other major brand provides similar service, BUT you need an Android phone and unlimited mobile data package with yout mobile provider. Right away they limit their customer base for that service. Also try to do a trip abroad with roaming mobile data... TT has not the best reputation recently, but for certain market yet the best solution. In other markets not. And if you have a look at other brands' support site, all the makers suffer from some issues all the time.

Our local Costco has the Go Live 820 Europe version at a very good price. Does this have sufficient capacity for me to buy and use a separate SD card with US maps ?

Thank you

Yes, there is place for micro SD. Just in case have a look at before you pay. It is on the bottom, under the plastic lid. You need also 11.031 or higher software to enable the card.

Also may I check with you please... can I assume that the 820 in Costco will come with that software or that I can download an update to that version free from the TomTom website ?

It might or might not come with that, but either way, you can download the latest via MyTomTom always.
