SPEED CAMERA WARNING - TIME/DISTANCE BEFORE ALARM.

I have just bought a Via 120 Live mainly for the speed camera warnings. You probably know that Road Angel supply the data and are considered to be the best database for speed cameras.

Unfortunately unlike the old Tom Tom's you cannot change the distance before you are warned before reaching the camera. This will put you within range of the mobile van type sites before the alarm activates and doesn't give you much time before the fixed one's. I have just confirmed this with Tom Tom technical help.

Tom Tom please change this part of the software.

hmmm, not sure I agree with your comment about best speed warning device being road angel.....I update my TOMTOM speed warnings from the PGPS WORLD...and of course you can select the distance warning to suit your own requirements

I have a 1005 and until the recent upgrade of the firmware I was able to set the warning "distance" by time. That allowed me to decide when I wanted to be informed about the various camera types. Remember that mobile cameras can detect much earlier than Gatso type cameras. However since the "upgrade" it would appear that this option no longer exists. Can someone at TOM TOM confirm that this option has been removed. And is so why?

Both my 940 and my partners 1005 have been crippled in this way. TomTom told me today that the feature has been removed for legal resons!!! yer right. Smeels like hogwash to me. One of the most useful features of the TomTom, at least for me, was the timed alerts.

Hopefully my next car will have internet access and use googlemaps, then I can leave TomTom all together. How a company with such a great product can screw things up so regularly (don't get me started with the software problems their updates gave me) bewilders me.

Any more info on this. The function has vanished but TOMTOM don't seem to document additional/removal of features for updates very clearly.

Maybe there is something in what TOM TOM are saying. In France and Switzerland ( I know they are other countries but TOM TOM is nearly world wide now)..they have made the use of speed camera devices illegal unless they warn of a danger area. My speed camera database has been amended to leave the decision to the user as to whether they include the banned countries. I am not sure why TOMTOM are offering this as a reason for the reduction of the distances though!!

I have a Go550. Just been experimenting with a local redlight camera. Trying to maintain a steady approach speed and counting in my head the defaul time delay seems about 15 secs.

It doesn't really matter what the warning time is, as a recent trip to London and back showed the unit is missing around 40 speed cameras!!!!!! It was updated on Saturday too, so has the most current database. TomTom has lost my trust.

I have just read my TomTom manual and it clearly states that you can adjust the distance before you get to a camera, so as far as I am concerned I have been totally misled into buying a product that under the sale of goods act is not fit for the purpose. I would hope that you are able to either put it back on as per your manual or I should be entitled to a full refund as I only purchased it two weeks ago and i will be contacting trading standards next week, I would appreciate your reply as soon as possible.

Kilometer or type distance or time

130KM/H , variable cams 600 meters 17 seconds

120 & 110 km/h 500 meters 16 seconds

100 & 90 km/h 400 meters 15 seconds

80 & 70 km/h 300 meters 14 seconds

60 & 50 km/h, redlight cams 250 meters 13 seconds

40 & 30 km/h 200 meters 12 seconds

20 km/h 150 meters 12 seconds

We unfortunately have testified these distances and times very hard by donating ...

Seem to be too late when using MPH and not KM as measurement.

Just about ontop of the mobile sites before it warns you.

I have no information, with which speed You will enter a radar zone, but, we simply took note to our (insurance guys) formula double reaction time plus break time = distance or seconds. Information to all "pure mathematicans" in the board: break time is not calculated to level zero. And double reaction time due You have some other noises around You like radio, cellular, Your mother-in-law, a hungry kid etc etc. That is one of the reasons we really regret TT has voided signal "Beep 5" we are using in our community. Beep 5 was the signal of US coast guard, the chance, meeting these guys on our roads is rather small.

And, honestly, some of us (me too ... ) donated several times till we have found out right distances & times.

I understand You are "cooking", but, exactly that situation has been the background we (about 400 fellows) have decided to buy TomToms and change from other systems.

There is more than just one reason from our side to blast sometimes TT HQ but, showing road maps our Duchies are simply the best. If You are pilot or sailor I would suggest Garmin to You, because they have the special cards for such purposes in their programme. But, simply believe in me, they are also just cooking with water ...

If I would have been able to find the amphibious, eggs and wool producing pig, we would have changed our nearly 700 TT at once. I haven't.

I do, but whats the point of a warning device if it warns you when you are right on top of the position.

There is no way my device gives the warnings upto 17 seconds before hand.

Mobile sight warning is useless.

I know dozens of people including myself who have been done by road safety cameras (vans) travelling within 35mph. The lowest being 33. Next time you go for a drive count how many times you go over 30 in a 30. It only takes a moments lack of concentration. 3 points and a fine. Are we really that much of a danger to society. Thieves get less!
