Map correction, road names, general inquiry to community

Hallo community,

I told several times in my comments I am employed at an insurance company. I often receipt accident reports by my clients, unfortunately have had an accident within an intersection, exactly an entrance or exit. Several times it rather came close to a quiz in finding out at which entrance or exit. Most of the times my TT was very much more than helpful, but, I also took note, these "ramps" are not named within our maps. Checking sometimes local situation, I took note, these ramps very well have names like "A22 Rampe 8".

Travelling also outside Austria I found out, nearly all ramps are named like above shown example.

Therefore my general inquiry to the community, whether we couldn't start to check and "re-name" these ramps within our home areas. By the way, this is not a map mistake by TomTom !

But, I think, we wouldn't assist the insurance companies only but very much more the emergency units like police, fire or ambulance to give clear instruction, at which position within an intersection You actually need assistance.

I meanhwile started re-naming ramps, You should have receipt it by map share ... I could imagine, if everybody is just re-naming such ramps within his home area, only, we should be able to give clear instructions in a - hopefully never happening - emergeny situation travelling through Your area ...

Hi,

if you've got a GPS device with you you can give either the exact coordinates or some other information about where you are and need help. This can be done via the help option in your device's menu. That way it could also be said at the intersection of two roads and in which direction if it is a multi lane road (i.e. A6/A5 in direction of Heidelberg) and you'll be able to navigate directly to that location.

I agree that it could be easier for all helping people to be able to navigate to just a ramp of the motorway but if given the coordinates or the second road of that intersection you'll be able to navigate there just as easy.

I will tell You a short story:

In late September 2011 I have had my first accident with a person after driving about 2 Mio Kilometers. Nevertheless I am employed at an insurance company, nevertheles I am telling all the people what to do in such a situation I made all things wrong due the person in front of my car. This man has been very much more important for me than all other things You should do.

Of course You are right, if You are really so cool and ignore all other things - even things to Your favour - You surely will be able to read the coordinates onto Your TomTom. I wasn't.

Therefore my question, whether we couldn't name all the anonymous ramps.

Hi Tomtomista,

I just had a look at my XL LIVE IQR EU and if I use the following steps I can already select the ramp of the motorway.

Navigate to
address
intersection
select motorway you're driving on
select ramp as an intersection.

The order in Germany for this ramp is: number of the ramp, then As or Ak for exit or Autobahnkreuz and then the name of the exit. This would be for following the motorway A5 and the destination would be the ramp to the A656 it says 37 Ak Kreuz Heidelberg.

The now still anonymus ramps should be named in the same way so I recommend just reporting the missing ramps via the online tool for later implementation.

Hi TomtomuserR,

than, please, place a map correction in Your map and send it via TomTom-Home / update my TomTom.

There I don't know whether You have activated Your map upshare meanhwile I will explain shortly:

Normally Your TomTom is asking You, whether You want to be part of the map share community. If doing so, answer with yes, that's the simplest way.

Second way is via TomTom-Home, where You can activate same procedure.

Third way is activating straight on You TomTom if You haven't become asked by correcting the map.

I hope, I have nothing forgotten. Anyway, if activated the procedure is running automatically. Only one, You have to do is to select which updates You want to receive and, naturally, place Your own map corrections, please.

Also must be noted, You should not expect Your map correction with next map update ...

Hi TomtomuserR,

also as not all corrections get applied directly to your device and as it is a much faster and more reliable way to make sure that the corrections are included in a future map please report the error via the online Map Share Reporter tool as well. That way you'll also get some feedback whether your report is still pending or if it has been verified by TomTom. After the report being accepted it usually takes until the next or second next map for the error to get corrected in the map. Sometimes it also takes longer. If it does take longer than the second next map (November 2012, map version v895) or if it doesn't get marked as accepted within the next 4 weeks please report again.
