Are you by chance using a wireless connection? TomTom's servers don't deal with them very well. Try a directly connected computer and see if the download can proceed without corruption.

Hi CJW

I would advise you to keep an eye on the following details / settings:

• use a Home network.
• use a wired internet connection.
• Make sure the connection is faster then 2MB/sec.
• If customer uses a Router between the PC and Modem, try to take this out and conn PC directly to Modem.
• add TomTom Home as a safe application in all internet security software. (open port 443 if possible)
• turn of energy saving profiles and/or screensavers.
• be connected to a power cable when using a laptop.

regards

Sphinksx

Sphinksx I would like to ask you a few questions.

1. As millions are connected via wireless, why is it a problem to Tomtom?

2. Why better than 2Mb/s? My connection is 30Mb/s but the download is very slow, Tomtom servers need upgrading.

3. Why is a router a problem, many home systems are using them. Are we to rewire our systems to suit Tomtom?

4. Tomtom always suggests its the security software, yet I have no problems updating other software packages.

Browsing the internet shows many have problems with map upgrading, works one time, next time fails. I wish Tomtom would make their system more robust.

I am connected exactly as advised above. Still no use. Will try again in a few days but surprised the file is so flakey as everyone else can deliver robust files pretty simply.

Hi Yakker

These suggestions are for me the minimum points of attention when you do find issues in downloading large items (aka, maps) for your device. They are not official requirement and in no way a must.

1. As millions are connected via wireless, why is it a problem to Tomtom?

Wireless can be sensitive to other electronic devices around it. Therefor, if something goes wrong, this could be why.

2. Why better than 2Mb/s? My connection is 30Mb/s but the download is very slow, Tomtom servers need upgrading.

2MB/s is the minumum to ensure a succesful download. Any above is ofcourse better.

3. Why is a router a problem, many home systems are using them. Are we to rewire our systems to suit Tomtom?

Many routers have firewalls installed which some users don't know about / or how to change the settings.

4. Tomtom always suggests its the security software, yet I have no problems updating other software packages

When security software is installed, but users have no experience in configuring it, it could lead to issue when set as standard.

I would like to point out that these are all suggestions and by no means facts on how this have to be.

regards

Sphinksx

Same problem. when the error notice comes up it shows the path to the map file. i found I had 2 of the same maps there. i moved them both to antoner directory and restarted the tom tom. After a couple of error messages it downloaded the maps again and all is ok. think it happened because i have 2 tom toms and it got confused.
