So after having issues installing the map update, it finally works, then tells me I can safely disconnect my device, so I disconnect it...and the message doesnt go away, no matter how many times i hit ok. So I restarted it, now it doesnt load past the splash/load screen, its a TomTom VIA 1435 with that map version 8.85, need this stupid thing working for tomorrow.

Try to empty the cache in the MyTomTom application's settings menu. Use Google Chrome or Firefox, soft reset the device, and connect and update again. In case no luck:
"Hold the power button until you get to the (diagnostic) screen.
Then......... 3 QUICK taps of the on/off button. About a half second apart: tap-tap-tap.
Then connect to the computer. Hopefully, a screen will open up and offer you the last known good application for your unit. This process is known as a recovery ...
If that works and an application is installed, then hopefully your map will be recognized.
Then connect to the computer again and get the new application with the goal that this time the installation will go properly and your map recognized."
