Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

1. Save everything from the device, using Explorer (or Finder on Mac), include all the files (hidden as well).

2. Then format the internal storage of your device.

3. Go to TT HOME, Manage my "DEVICE", delete everything from the hard drive and try the update again.

Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

I did the same thing 3 weeks ago and it is still DEAD. I did the suggestions step by step of backing up, deleteing and reformatting 3 times-NOTHING! I'm waiting on an answer from them now, not holding my breath.

Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

If the above steps are not working, most probably the internal storage is faulty.

Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

Thanks for the input but despite the effort, it's still messed up and IT IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE MOST RECENT TOMTOM UPDATE!!!. Why can't a mod from TomTom offer some sugestions or better support?

Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

What is the result when you try to run a CHKDSK /r on the device's storage?

A software update can't really cause problem with the storage physically. Logically can, but a format (preferably full format) and re-install should sort that. Just like a hard drive, when there is a bad sector on the drive, but sector is not in use, it all works fine. As soon as there is a system file getting to the bad sector, you've got BSOD and other error messages. It can happen to any sort of storage (USB drive, memory card, HDD, etc), and not a result of a software update. It is just the unfortunate co-incidence. The update put some files to the bad sector and that revealed the issue.

Try the CHKDSK /r and maybe a low level format. If those are all fine, and you remove all the contents from the TT HOME, Manage My XL, then it will do a fresh download from the TT servers and will install it. If the problem is the same, most probably the internal storage gave up.

Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

Thank you but I did all of that. I have IT people that work for me to help. I did start all over again late yesterday and it finally worked. The same thing I tried at least 3 time before finaly work- go figure. Our IT person thinks there may have been a problem with tomtom down load

Re: update on 6/2/2012 killed my XL

The downloaded file could be corrupted whilst downloading. That's when I say to remove everything in the Manage My Whatever. Thar would delete the corrupted file and would download it again.
